ANCHORAGE, ALASKA (AP) - Less than a week after balking at the Alaska Legislature's investigation into her alleged abuse of power, Gov. Sarah Palin on Monday indicated she will cooperate with a separate probe run by people she can fire.

An attorney for the GOP vice presidential nominee met with an investigator for the state Personnel Board to discuss sharing documents and schedule witness interviews, McCain spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said. Neither she nor McCain spokesman Ed O'Callaghan had further details about the meeting and said they did not know if the governor or her husband would be interviewed.

Ok,here's an obnoxious "news" story by AP(see line.".cooperate w/a probe run by people she can fire)

My question, is: What if Palin did abuse her power? eg, She tried to fire someone she had no right to fire?

Would this be a State or Federal crime? An impeachable offense? I guess I don't get the whole thing.....I mean obama took a sweetheart deal from rezko, and says it was a'boneheaded mistake"...or something like that.

What if they just find "hey, she had no right to do this"?

Then Sarah Palin will be the first elected official who ever tried to fire someone she had no right to fire. Historic, actually.

Of course, Barack Obama has never been in a position to fire anyone, ever, because he's never run anything, so we should rush to make him our Fearless Leader.

If the Bammies can set up an “investigation” run by their little toadie, Hollis French, I don’t see why Governor Palin can’t set up an investigation of her own.

the whole thing is funny.

I mean, Marbury vs Madison which unfortunately gave the supreme court more power than they deserve, was about Jefferson trying to get rid of a judge. Literally a”Federal case” but no one’s image was tarnished.

On the other hand, Andrew Johnson got impeached for trying to fire someone in violation of some act.

Well, of course it would be the most heinous crime ever committed by an elected official.

this is a classic case of an unprovable accusation. But the media knows all they have to do is accuse...

What if they just find "hey, she had no right to do this"?

This Hollis French character tried to suggest that he might file a motion to impeach, but no state legislature is going to impeach a Governor with an astronomical approval rating. That wasn't, however, the point of this drill in the first place. It's just about dragging Sarah Palin's name through the mud.

What if she didn’t???

Oh well, what’s a little politicking going to hurt...we’ll consider that question AFTER we’ve defamed and defeated her and McCain in the election.

The media and Dems want people to ask YOUR question instead of mine...you do realize that.

Interesting... I suppose it's possible she really wasn't the govenor when she fired (reassigned actually) this guy. You're right, impersonating a govenor would indeed be serious... especially since she seems to still have everyone convinced that she still holds that job. WOW... this could be big!

The commisioner served at the pleasure of the Governor.

Sarah Palin has the right to fire the commisioner for not wearing a skirt.

It’s out of Frenchie’s hands now. What once started as a local tit-for-tat “gotcha” moment has spun out of control now that Sarah is a VP pick. Too many “big dogs” roaming in AK now and the detractors are walking a fine line since Sarah has a 80+% approval rating.

I don’t think they expected Sarah to be playing hardball.

In fact, she fired him for insubordination, and she has the documents and e-mails to prove it. But you are nevertheless correct. He was a cabinet-level state official who served at the pleasure of the governor. To this day, I haven't heard any cogent explanation (other than the obvious political one) why this matter is even worthy of investigation.

“My question, is: What if Palin did abuse her power?”

What if Sarah is a space alien from the planet Mongo?

What if Barack Obama is a communist drug-using pervert from Chicago.

I’ll bet on the last what if.

She could fire this clown for whatever reason she wanted. The only way there could be charges out of this is if she committed some crime with regard to the investigation of the firing (i.e., perjury trap).

Abuse of power? Hey, it's not like she threatened to sick the IRS on someone with an audit or something like that. Of course, that would never happen.

Even if she is “guilty” of this so-called “abuse of power” the guy was never fired and he is a scumbag in any case. They sympathy will be with Palin or people won’t care. Anyone who lives in rural areas knows there are always scores that get settled like this, it is part of the culture.

Actually she had a right to fire him if she wanted to. That’s like telling President Bush he cannot fire his Attorney General.

What planet do some of you people live on not to realize that jobs at state government level as well as the Federal level are subject to having people fired.

Your questions smack of someone who hopes they find something.

I really don’t want to be too picky but it seems the best way to label the source of this article is “AP via Washington Times” so as to make clear that this is an AP article written by an AP writer (duh) and that no Wash. Times staffer was involved. The Washington Times, for surely inadequate reasons, is starting to print more and more AP-sourced articles and is becoming unreadable.
