Minnesota's U.S. Senate race took yet another odd turn Sunday when skirmishing broke out between the top two contenders over whether Democratic candidate Al Franken reverted to his "Saturday Night Live" days to help craft an "SNL" skit that spoofed Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
The political website Politico reported late Saturday that Franken had proposed the idea for the skit and was actively involved in its creation; it cited two anonymous sources at NBC, which airs the long-running show.
Franken's campaign Sunday denied that Franken had pitched skit ideas. Spokesman Colleen Murray said Franken had talked to SNL producer Lorne Michaels early last week "to catch up on things" and had related his recent experiences taping ads that include the mandatory candidate-approval message.

ROTFL! That Al is a funny guy! Even when he’s lying.
I wouldn’t want to admit authorship of such a lame skit either.
Al Franken is a big fat idiot.
you Minn people better start acting grown up.....you can’t possibly elect that evil animal pervert....
Either way it doesn’t matter. The ratings on the McCain spoof were one of their lowest.
OTOH, their ratings on the Palin spoof were their highest in 2 years.
Yeah right, he called Loren Michaels to see what he had for lunch. What a liar.
Pray for W, McCuda and Our Trooops
No, of course, liberals Never lie.
Just so it's clear, this is the comment that Clintonistically will cause the media to drop the story cold, even though it does nothing to close the subject. Actively helping to create is not limited to 'pitch[ing] story ideas', as a wordsmith would know. And Franken, whatever else may be true of him, is seriously acquainted with the proper use of the English language.
Franken knew nothing
I know this part is correct.
I trust Politico a hell of a lot more than any lying, angry, childish, POS Dem like Franken.
I hope my fellow Minnesotans have learned their lesson after Ventura...hopefully there are enough of us left with some dignity that come out to vote against him...
I didn’t see it, but I spoke with someone who did and she said that the bit had Al Franken’s writing style all over it.....
I didn’t see the skit either —haven’t watched SNL since it was actually funny (which is decades)— and darn it, I’m totally happy enough!
I don’t trust Al.
Is Franken worried that if he admits to this, SNL will be forced to let Norm Coleman help write next week’s skits? I’ll bet they’d be worth watching in that case.
Their could be some campaign finance rules problems with this.....
I think he knows he's in trouble.
I trust the Red Star-Tibune...
“I didnt see it, but I spoke with someone who did and she said that the bit had Al Frankens writing style all over it.....”
Yep, the proof is that it wasn’t funny.
He’s a coward. He hides under his bed when he gets in trouble.
