The U.S. Geological Service issued a report in April ('08) that only scientists and oilmen knew was coming, but man was it big.
It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since '95) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota; western South Dakota; and extreme eastern Montana ...
Check THIS out:
The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska's Prudhoe Bay, and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil.

Don’t get too excited, president 0bama can destroy the industry the same way clinton destroyed mineral extraction in the Grand Staircase-Escalante area.
Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Kinda cool.

Why is the national media....even Fox News....completely silent about this ?

> Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... at $107 a barrel, we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5.3 trillion. That's enough to bail out Wall Street another five times!

I suspect 0bama would want to invade Canada and capture the fields to keep the oil off the market and further the goals of Ummah...

There are yet many lifetime's existing reservoirs, and so much petroleum yet undiscovered.
Thank God for high sea levels, biologics and sedimentation in the geologic pat.

There is even more good news regarding new capabilities to extract heretofore unrecoverable shale gas.

USGS estmates 3-4 billion barrels. Not 500 as some investment groups reported.

There is even more good news regarding new capabilities to extract heretofore unrecoverable shale gas. This same technology may be used on "old" fields.
Under the old technology, the most that could be recovered is about 30%.
If they can recover another 30% or more, there is a lot of oil to be recovered.

I would guess that one reason is that certain people don't want us to be energy independent or for our economy to truly flourish.
The Democrat "No Domestic Energy Policy!"
- No domestic drilling.
- No new refineries.
- No new nuke plants.
- No new dams for hydro-electric.
- No coal.
- No shale.
- Deplete the SPR.
- Let Iran get nukes.
- Let Iraq fall to Iranian domination.
- No Canadian tar sands oil.
All of that puts the U.S. in a position that war for oil or
complete economic collapse will be our only choices.
You can't frustrate every source of domestic energy
without consequences. Our enemies will blackmail us
to the extent that we are vulnerable to blackmail.
The Democrats are leading us into a real war for oil.
A war we won't have the energy to fight. A war we don't need to fight because we have our own resources.
