British minister says Palin is 'horrendous'

A British government minister attacked Republican US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin as "horrendous" at the Labour Party conference on Saturday.
The outburst from Communities Secretary Hazel Blears threatens to undermine Prime Minister Gordon Brown's determination for the British government to maintain a neutral position in the US presidential election.
Speaking at a fringe meeting of the centre-left party during its annual party conference in Manchester, Blears said Palin was capitalising on people's disillusionment with regular politics.
"I just think there is so much anti-politics -- not just in this country but around the world," Blears said.
"One of the reasons why Sarah Palin has been such a phenomenon is because she's anti-politics, anti-Washington.
"Her politics are horrendous, but actually she's struck a chord with people -- 'I'm a maverick, I'm not part of those powerful people' -- and people identified with that."

To all my American friends....
Don’t worry, a new Conservative government is a slam-dunk over here at the next election. Labour are about as popular as bubonic plague. BUT WE EXPECT YOU GUYS TO HOLD UP YOUR END - ELECT MCCAIN/PALIN!

This from a country that is introducing Sharia law to its citizens. Bizarre isn't it. They don't like Palin's politics but they are OK with the punishments allowed in Sharia law such as "honor killings," stoning adulterers , amputation for stealing, etc., etc. To a sane person I think the latter is what is truly "horrendous."

Thank you for your encouraging reply. For all our differences the Brits and the Yanks need each other to be there and be strong for each other. Especially in this effed up, scary @$$ world.

“Palin was capitalising on people’s disillusionment with regular politics.”
And we have a winner!
Yes, people are disillusioned with regular politics. Like politicians who worry more about illegal immigrants than they do about American citizens. Like spending hundreds of billions of dollars to deal with a crisis created by the government.

"Horrendous"? I think as a Minister of the British Government it's OUTRAGEOUS that you should be openly running your yap on matters of our election. To me it's as entertaining as anything else that has roiled the waters since Sarah Palin became a household name. As one of the unwashed, I find blustering and sputtering of the self-proclaimed social maestros to be, well, myrthful.

Keep it up you idiot! Keep attacking Gov. Sarah Palin. After McCain and Palin win, there may be tighter restrictions on Brits flying to the US.

Calls herself a plain old Yorkshire lass. Revels in her hard working class parents who had to face the world at 14 years of age. Father was a "Fitter" (Mechanic). Lived in a little house and all.
She is a lawyer though. As a saying goes, never did a hard days work in her life. Working class hard work that is. As I mentioned in a previous thread, she would certainly display high dudgeon if a American criticized her. Throw in the bloomin' mess the old so called Labour Party has made of England. An old Yorkshire saying for Hazel.
Where there's no sense, there's no feeling.
