I love mincemeat pies, you can only get mincemeat here during the holioday season. I guess mincemeat is about the only olden days sweetened meat dish that is still around.

Is there still meat in your mincemeat in Britain even the white fat is no longer beef suet but vegetable fat similar to shortening.

It is interesting the origins of many modern dishes go back to Henry the 8th.

I was watching a program on the History channel on Monday and many of the dishes served at Hampton Court were a mixture of sweet and sour plus a lot of spices used were the forerunner of the modern day curry. I am glad they pointed out that contrary to urban myth these flavourings were not used because the meat was going off in Henry's court that would not have been an option but because they liked the taste.

I don’t think there is any meat in the mincemeat we can buy round here.

I may be wrong; I don’t even know that much about arugula.
