Val Kilmer To Be New Mexico's Next Governor?

Hollywood star Val Kilmer is tipped to become the next governor of his home state of New Mexico - by the politician currently in the hot seat.

Democrat Bill Richardson has to step down from the position when his second term ends in 2011 - and he would love to hand over the keys to the governor's mansion to Kilmer.

He says, "I like the idea. Val Kilmer is a New Mexican, he was Batman. You know there have been successful actors going into politics. I haven't talked to him about it, I don't know how serious he is, but you know if he jumps in a race he's got name ID, so it can't be discounted."

Kilmer - who is actively involved with the The Wildlife Center of New Mexico- wouldn't be the first actor to become a governor. Hollywood icons Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan have both held the position in California. (IG/WNWCPL/MJ)

Val has dealt with a few things in his life that are rare, but not unprecedented. As he was overheard speaking to Hillary:

"Listen to me, Hillary. I'm not the first guy who fell in love with a woman that he met at a restaurant who turned out to be the daughter of a kidnapped scientist only to lose her to her childhood lover who she last saw on a deserted island who then turned out fifteen years later to be the leader of the French underground."

I dunno. He’s tied pretty closely with the Clintoons. But then again, nothing would surprise me anymore.

Ted Turner owns much of the land in NM and raises Bison (among other animals). He sells Bison hunts thru an outfitter. One of his most frequesnt hunters is none other than Jane Fonda.

Go figure

Val Kilmer has some.... well, let’s just say he’s displayed some “emotional” issues at times. Plus, he’s a lush.

In other words, he’s a typical Democrat.

Sounds like the Costner film is believable, then — I’ll rent it tomorrow for viewing after my shift.

I did some reading on Wyatt Earp once, and the real story is widely divergent to the “Tombstone” version. Like, for example, the apparently complete absence of a criminal gang known as “The Cowboys”...

Do you know of any decent movies about the Texas Rangers? I haven’t seen one — but I have read plenty of good books about ‘em. Wonder why that is?

(I see you’ve met both Applegate and Kalishnikov. I’m a long-time fan of Applegate’s “Kill or Be Killed” — it’s a fantastic manual for anyone wanting good, pragmatic self-defense. Also helpful for anyone wanting to learn how to shoot the 1911 .45 correctly. He was WAY ahead of his time in many respects. So was W E Fairbairn. And Kalishnikov...)

If he could get the endorsement of a single director he's worked with, I'd probably vote for him.

If you want the facts, get a History documentary on Earp. If you want memorable entertainment, Tombstone is the call.

Batman??????? Bill...stop and gather your thoughts for just a moment. Batman is a FICTIONAL character. Not REAL. You DO know that don’t you???

So, OK..Val was Batman and he was Ice ... both fictional characters. OK? He PLAYED THE PART of both those characters. Repeat after me Bill:

Batman was a fictional character
Ice was a fictional character
Val Kilmer is an ACTOR who PLAYED those fictional characters

Bill Richardson lives in a fantasy world of movies I guess.

I think you’re mistaking Applegate with Col. Jeff Cooper. Cooper taught the modern technique based on Jack Weaver’s research.

The history of the Texas Rangers span a long time and it’s made up of short heroic incidents that wouldn’t translate to a movie.

I believe that Val Kilmer’s father was a “developer” in Los Angeles with a poor reputation. Overpriced and not so well built homes.

I might be wrong, but I don’t think I am remembering incorrectly.
I used to ride horses near and across a “development” that was dormant for a number of years that was Kilmer’s father’s project.

Would like to know more about Val Kilmer himself. Sometimes apples don’t fall far from the tree.

I'd tend to agree...except for one portion.
It's been a long time, but decades ago I ran across a book
that was mostly about the bloody incidents in the Nueces (sp?) strip
It sounded like it was nastier than anything in Indian Territory (Oklahoma).

The book may have not been accurate history, but as I read it,
it sounded like it could be made into a real "shoot-em-up" of
a movie.

Of course, it would never be made today as too many of the bad guys
were what even RINOs would call "immigrants".
(actually illegal immigrant/invaders)

Just finished re-watching Tombstone; “Justice is Coming.” Kilmer made a great Doc Holliday)

Man did Kilmer completely PW3NED that role. That was the greatest acting I have ever seen.

I like the idea. Val Kilmer is a New Mexican, he was Batman.

He was also Nick Rivers in Top Secret. Richardson is such a brain donor, but I see what he's getting at. To Richardson it's important WHO you pretended to be for money. Just like him pretending to be Governor.
