Lord, we have been through some turbulent times. We have seen identifiable enemies try to destroy us. We have seen opportunistic politicians try to gain power over us to our detriment. We have seen the faith of many grow cold. Yet, we are still here. We are not destroyed; and therefore, we still have a place in Your plan. We need You Lord to guide us in that plan. Make our hearts inclined towards You. Make our lives pleasing to You. And give us people to represent us in this government that will follow Your will.
I pray for President Bush. He probably has mixed emotions right now because he is so little in the spotlight. But, he still faces serious crisis after crisis. From the terrorism in Pakistan to the collapse of many key businesses he has to walk carefully and wisely. He can not do this rightly without You. So, guide him Lord. Lead him through the mine-field and bring him and this nation safe to the other side.
I pray for Governor Paln. Lord, vile is all I can say about the attacks against her. Vile and evil. Protect her. let the arrows of the enemy hit Your armor which surrounds her and fall harmlessly to the ground. With each swipe may her support grow. And, in turn, may she speak boldly for Your name's sake. She believes You, Lord. Stand with her.
Be with Senator McCain. Give him wisdom and boldness to speak the truth and a willinging and ready audience to hear it. Make even "sure things" on the other side take notice and reconsider before they commit a huge error. Lord, most of all, draw Senator McCain to You. Help him see with clarity that which You would have him to do. Help him to use his now famous courage to go even farther for Your name's sake. And may his enemies be thwarted on every hand.
Lord, for the sake of the babies. For the sake of our men and women serving in the military. For the sake of the general welfare of this nation. For the sake of moral truth and justice. For the sake of the preservation of our rights to worship You freely, we ask that You guide this election towards a good end - that will not be to our harm but to the improvement of our relationship with You.
Go with us Lord the rest of this day and be with the services as they go through the day.
For it is in the blessed name of Jesus my Lord that I pray these things. Amen.
Pray for our nation and our leaders today.
I join in prayer for President Bush, the Administration, McCain, Palin and our heroes standing in harm’s way!
We thank You for walking with us through this difficult time. I pray protection over President Bush, Senator McCain, Governor Palin, our brave troops and their families. Give each the strength, wisdom and knowledge to fulfill the call You have made on their lives. Give them a peace that passes all understanding and fill their lives with blessings beyond message. I pray this nation and all nations turn (or return) to You, the Only true God. Walk with us today and fill us with Your Holy Spirit. May Your will be done in our lives. In Your Son's Name we pray. Amen
In 1879, James Murray was hired as the editor of The Oxford English Dictionary. He had little advanced education, but he was a gifted linguist. Murray enlisted a large number of volunteers around the world to read widely and send him usages of assigned words. At Oxford, he and a small staff of scholars cataloged and edited the definitions they received.
During his lifetime, Murray was knighted and awarded an honorary doctorate from Oxford. Today, the 20-volume Oxford English Dictionary is still recognized as one of the most accurate and comprehensive dictionaries in the world.
Murrays legacy of precision and accuracy with words reminds me of what the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, a young pastor of the Ephesian church: Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15). The phrase rightly dividing is a metaphor derived from the stonemasons craft of cutting stones straight to fit into their proper place in a building.
Precision with words is essential to an accurate interpretation of Gods Word. Lets be people who care deeply about what the Bible says and what it means.
Amen.
Well done. May all be blessed this Lord’s Day.
Watch of those in need and support those those requiring Your steady hand. Help all through these trying times, oh Lord.
Thank You for your many gifts and blessing, as well as trials, which strengthen us, your children, while crushing Your enemies.
Amen, Father. Just as Abraham pleaded with you to not destroy Sodom for the sake of a small number of people, so too we plead with You to not allow our beloved America to be destroyed by evil people who are slyly contemplating how to remove You from our lives. For the sake of those who love You, Father---for the sake of those who call You Lord---we pray for the complete rejection and defeat of all those candidates who do not honor Your teachings. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Amen.
