If people treated any breed of dog like the idiots who buy and train pitbulls to be mean and vicious, you would see the same problem with that breed. Unfortunately, scum of the earth are attracted to pitbulls and thus treat them like crap and they end up like this.<<<<<<<<<<<<

I haven’t seen any stories about maurading Beagles or Yorkies killing kids, for example. But unfortunately there have been far too many about pit bulls, and of course the owner does set the tone.

But there must be something inherently in the dog’s makeup for this to happen far too often. I dealt with the “scum of the earth” for many years, face to face, often in their homes, and met up with many of their dogs. I can truthfully say that the other breeds didn’t give me grief like the Pit Bulls, and and they kept a vast variety of dog breeds.

I've known bensenjis to attack deer... labs to look for fights with coyotes... Dobies that will tear into any feral cat that crosses its path, Chihuahuas that will bite anyone, and pit bulls as mean as lions.

And I've known all of these breeds to be as sweet as punch.

Time and again I’ve read about gentle pit bulls attacking a child. A couple of years ago an 8 year old was attacked and killed by a couple of pit bulls that he had played with for a long time. These animals have an instinct to kill that sometimes becomes overwhelming when two or more get together.

More relevant to this argument, I've never heard of this with Labs or Golden Retrievers, both of which are large enough to really do damage. I do agree with you, this breed (Pit Bulls) were bred to fight and kill. I have seen a few that were loving pussycats however.
