It was a tragic scene in North Las Vegas involving a baby and two dogs. A four-month-old was attacked by two Pit Bulls. The dogs were attacking so viciously police say they had to shoot them dead upon arriving at the scene.
Residents in the neighborhood near Cheyenne and Martin Luther King say they are shocked but not surprised that it happened. Neighbors tell News 3 the two Pit Bulls were full grown dogs and when the baby girl arrived at the house four months ago they began to display aggressive behavior towards the child and anyone who held her.
"We knew that someone had shot somebody," a neighbor named Gloria told News 3.
The shots that Gloria and her neighbors heard was North Las Vegas police shooting the two dogs still on the attack.
"I look in. You could see the dogs laying dead," another neighbor, Jason Howell said. The shots prompted Howell to run to his neighbor's house to see if he could help. He says that what he saw will haunt him. "There are some peculiars I don't even want to discuss," said Howell.
Howell says other neighbors have commented on the dogs' aggressive behavior. "You don't have Pit Bulls around children, period," Howell said.
Also according to neighbors, the child's grandmother was at the home babysitting when the attack happened.
Neither police nor neighbors know what sparked the attack. "You have an aggressive breed dog, a Pit Bull and a child in the house. They ripped it to shreds," Howell said. What could the child possibly have done to instigate that? I have a daughter who is 18 months old. And the look on the father's face is something I'll never forget, ever. That's all I have to say."
The grandmother who was in the house sustained injuries. She was taken away by ambulance.
It was just a couple of months ago that a local animal control officer was attacked by three pit bulls. In July the officer responded to a home in North Las Vegas.
According to reports the dogs were loose in a neighbors yard near Centennial and Lamb. The officer managed to get away from the dogs and locked herself in her vehicle.
In April two 5-year-old boys were attacked by two Pit Bulls outside a home near Vegas Valley and McLeod. One was bitten in the face, the other in the leg. Both dogs were put to euthanized..
I’ve heard enough about “pit bulls”. These monsters should wiped off the planet.
I fed 3 of them milk-bones through the fence when they were little bitty puppies,,,gave them water too,,, Still they lunge at the fence when we go outside,,, Louisiana is an open carry state and on your own land you
don't need a CCW permit,,,

It sounds to me like there were warning bells with this dog earlier. If they'd gotten rid of it then, the little boy wouldn't have lost his arm.
I’d rather be born a human being than a pit bull.
After a friend’s advice I tuned in to see Mr. Millan?s show.
Reenforced a lot of what I was taught, learned about dogs.
Great show for “problem owners” of dogs.
Heck, it took me 3 tries. And I lived with a pit bull years ago.
susie
You did better than I did. I clicked on the wrong dog several times. Finally, I just went down the line and clicked on all of them until I came across the pit bull.
This was posted over at the Petfinder Forums:
As a misguided public safety measure, Denver’s breed ban mandates the confiscation and killing of any dog fitting the description of a “pit bull” or a mixed breed dog having the physical characteristics of a “pit bull.” Since May 2005, Denver has ordered and carried out the killing of more than 1,700 dogs merely because they were, or looked like, a “pit bull.” Kane, a large breed dog in Denver was reported to local police as an illegal dog by a grumpy neighbor. Just last week the police came charging into the home of Ms. Gema Martinez at3 AM and just took her beloved pet Kane. He looked like a Pit they said. Kane, well socialized, shots up to date chipped had never even growled at anyone nor was ever involved with any biting issues was just taken from his home and now resides on death row in the Denver’s killing machine. Please help us stop this genocide by signing this petition and pledge to spend NO Dollars for Denver. Read about Forrest on the site. Make you want to just scream.

...looks like a pit bull type of dog. Done! ;-) It's been proven in Denver, and the criminals can't do anything about it. All that they can do is to cry and whine about the 1000+ mis-bred abominations exterminated so far (not counting the many put down by fed-up residents before the ordinance).
It's ghoulish, fanatical and sickening.
It really is unfortunate but periodical these people appear like a rancid pimple on FR.
After a while they they fade away, hatred is a difficult state to maintain.
It's best not to give them the attention they crave.
I just can’t imagine if the police broke into my house at 3 AM and took one of out dogs. All of our dogs would be so frightened, and they would want to come to us. This dog was removed for no reason other than he looked like a pit bull.
The goal is that once the cowards who own vicious dogs know that they will go to prison, there will be far fewer children torn to bits.
There are too many irresponsible dog owners. And, too many that use vicious dogs as a vicarious extension of their own evil desires.
They've got to pay the price.
The dog would be very jealous after the first time he showed his jealousy towards my child. I would establish the proper pecking order very quickly.
how long would a meth addict stay at 350 pounds? Just curious, because the only ones I’ve ever seen pictures of look like skeletons with nasty, wrinkled skin.
Pit Bulls are a breed that needs to go away.
I do not advocate euthanizing any of them just because they are pit bull, but there are plenty of other breeds that people could have.
A sane plan would be to require the spaying or neutering of 100% of the pit bull population. Anyone keeping a pit bull that has a litter of pupplies should be fined. In 5 years, any non-pit bull that has not been neutered or spayed should seized, fixed and then put up for adoption.
A few years later, one of their daughters who has her own daughter at this time moves into a house of her own. They become good friends with the next-door neighbors, who happen to have a pit-bull. But they also have two daughters, who are just one and three years older than her 3-yr-old, Katie. She lets Katie play there frequently. One day, a week after Katie turned 4, the dog must have been having a bad day. There were four little girls playing at the house, running in and out. No one's sure why it happened, but at one point, Katie happened to be the first to run out the back door. The rest soon followed, only to find Katie being attacked by the dog. The owners were devastated. They had the dog put down, and the father even spent much time crying about the incident. Katie spent a week in the hospital. One bite was close to her jugular. She even had bites on her butt, and still has a scar next to her eye.
Seriously--what IS it with this breed?
