I find it even more laughable that they’d prefer the term “Progressive” to “liberal” to describe themselves, since it’s a far more damning term. Anybody that knows political history knows that the Progressive party (specifically that of the ‘40s) was nothing but a Communist/Pro-Soviet party. A lot of liberals then were anti-Communist, “Progressives” weren’t. To really get the goat of a lib, when they demand to be called a Progressive, commend them on their honesty in acknowledging their Communist affiliation (like Hank Wallace and Paul Robeson).

You know what? *crew them, I believe in progress and liberty, so I’m the progressive, I’m the liberal. They’re socialists. Liberal didn’t used to mean socialist. It still doesn’t in some parts of the world.

Maybe we can take back “liberal” if they all use “progressive”. Ironically though I think they use it because we succeeded in making liberal a “dirty” word.
