Attack by Association’ Viewed as Fair Game by McCain Camp

Don’t be shocked if you see the McCain campaign pull the controversial Rev. Jeremiah Wright out of mothballs in new attacks against one-time parishioner, Barack Obama.

McCain advisers say that they see “attack by association” as fair game now, arguing that Obama’s campaign has been using that technique to go after McCain. In particular, the Obama campaign has hammered McCain on the stump and in TV ads on the number of one-time lobbyists working for his campaign. (The McCain campaign is also angry about a Spanish-language TV ad that ties McCain to Rush Limbaugh on immigration, without ever saying that McCain took on Limbaugh and others to fight for comprehensive immigration reform.)

“They played it one way, we played it another way,” said one of McCain’s top advisers, Mark Salter. “Now we’re both going to play it the same way.”

The thing is...The Jeremiah Wright issue is hardly an issue covered in cobwebs and mothballs. It spanned two decades and only came to a head, what, six months ago if that?

The Democrats WANT it to be old news, but that doesn’t make it thus.

Rush Limbaugh is not even close to McCain on immigration.......I listen to Rush and I KNOW. And Rush has very effectively given statements, interviews and TV appearances to correct facts in Obama’s false ad. Obama lied.

The Democrats have done nothing but attack by association. Last time I checked, President Bush is prohibited by the Constitution from running for another term.

Obama’s associations are very troubling and deserve a thorough and detailed investigation. This is something that the press will never do.

I think Rush will defend himself. In accurate Spanish. He could easily defend himself with 10-15M$ and should with Hispanics and Latinos, how they define themselves. Obama attacked him. I do not care about the good reverend in isolation. Big deal. But Barack has been continually surrounded by communists since his youth, some quite violent. The “black liberation theology” of the reverend fits this pattern. That is the only thing that makes him interesting. Otherwise, just a kook, and a silly target.
