The top Democrat in the U.S. Senate said Friday that any program devised to combat the recent crisis in the financial markets must also take into account the needs of average Americans.
The comments came in response to a press conference held by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson earlier in the day, where he confirmed that he would work with Congress to create a entity aimed at removing bad mortgage-based assets from financial institutions.
"We must not forget Main Street as we work to address the crisis on Wall Street," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D.-Nev., said in a statement.

A lot of bums borrowed more money than they could ever repay to buy houses that they could not afford. They got loans for this because DemocRATS forced lenders to agree to it (all in the name of "affordable housing", you see). Then, expectedly, the bums didn't pay their mortgage and the lenders (or, more accurately, those on Wall St. who hold the mortgages) ended up with major problems on their balance sheet. The stock market started an unavoidable steep dive (put that in your 401k and smoke it).
Now, as Congress considers what is needed to prevent a massive financial collapse on the order of the Great Depression, Senator Harry Reid and his RAT minions are there demanding tax dollars to pay the bums' mortgages, who will get to keep the houses. One thing you can be sure of, bums vote DemocRAT.
Harry, WHEN have you ever thought about "Main Street" before now?
So it’s not enough that we are bailling out bad home mortgages, we need to give a gift to ourselves for doing it. One mistake after anouther. How much money do you want to print Harry Reid, untill the dollar is worth nothing and gas is back up to $150 a barrel.
Typical Reid. He hasn’t given a flying monkey !@#$ for so-called “Main Street” Americans since before he was originally elected. Anyone with half a brain sees this for what it is.
The hypocrisy is blinding.
Good Lord! These Dummies are insufferable!
It sounds to me like theyre perking up to try and stick another stimulus package on us.
Hilarious! Now that people have defaulted on their loans, we have to put them back in their houses and give them another chance to default on their loans. Harry, your party has been asking the financial industry to make bad loans for thirty years now. I saw some of these efforts myself, back in the 1970’s. Reid and his fellow Democrats are responsible for this financial crisis.
“We must not forget Main Street”
Tell them to go find an apartment. It was good enough for my ancestors.
Hey Harry? Ever thought of maybe lowering taxes on small business owners on Main Street instead of taxing them to the hilt? That can make A LOT of difference in this economy!
This from the man who said yesterday that “Nobody knows what to do...”
It would be funny if it wasnt so damn frightening.
We have to make it clear to America that if we dont vote out this Rat congress nothing will change and America will continue to spiral out of control.
McCain/Palin will be hopeless in reforming a Rat Congress that has power.
All we’ll have is a veto
Taxes won't be getting lowered for a long, long time. Our great country just nationalized the entire financial sector and it will cost us at least $2 trillion (not the $500 billion that they want you to believe).
There are two ways of getting that money ($7,000 dollars for every man, woman and child) - they can either tax us, or they can print it.
Either way is going to destroy what was left of our economy.
The Rats and the Republicans both created this mess.
I’m so tired of hearing this. It NOW has cost us an ADDITIONAL $700B to pay for people who were loaning to people who couldn’t afford loans. By the time this is all through, it will probably cost the taxpayers as much as the Iraq war with change to spare.
That’s two of them. Obama was saying the same thing yesterday morning.
Looks like my neighbors are gonna get bailed out and I’m gonna get screwed.
Torches and pitchforks.
There were very few republicans involved in this.
Hang this around the dems necks and yes, vote out the Repubs that were involved. I believe there were 3 whose names escape me at the moment.
I'm referring to the fiscal policy of the United States since the early 1990's until now.
As I said, the Republicans and Democrats are both to blame. Bills don't pass unless both the House and Senate approve them and the President signs them.
Let's lay the blame where it belongs...
“Thats two of them. Obama was saying the same thing yesterday morning.”
We should not be throwing more money into the loans of people who can’t afford to pay them in the first place. This is typical government insanity. Keep up an entitlement, even if you have no idea what the ultimate cost will be.
As I said earlier, my ancestors lived in apartments, it should be good enough now.
“He hasnt given a flying monkey !@#$ for so-called Main Street Americans since before he was originally elected.”
When he says “Main Street Americans,” he means the Americans who live on Main Street — in the gutters and on the sidewalks, I assure you.
I still say, say run out the RATS!
