The U.S. attorney's office is making a federal case out of a spilt soda.
The Bush administration's top attorney in Idaho is bringing charges against a North Idaho woman for refusing to pay for a Diet Coke and then pouring it out on a counter at a cafeteria at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Boise.

“Spilt” is British English. The correct word in American English is “spilled.”

The first charge is ridiculous. The second one she should be charged with. I believe they probably brought both charges because what she did with pouring it over the register. That really is inexcusable. Do not feel sorry for this fool.

I guess I dont feel sorry for her.No doubt she's a b*tch. Ban her from the cafeteria. But don't make us pay for a federal court case. That's beyond idiotic.

$3.80 for a Coke? This is a cafeteria, not a baseball stadium.

I guess the thought of paying what they wanted for the drink and then bringing her own next time just didn’t occur to her.
I know fountain drinks are dirt cheap but still....

from the article:
“...she was angry by this point, and she poured the soda onto the counter.”
So she didn’t “spill” the soda but defiantely poured it out over the cash register & counter. Sounds like vadalism.
Drop the larceny charge. She didn’t steal anything.
Offer her 30 days of volunteer work while her Dad is being treated at the facility & let it go.
No, I’m not a judge, but I do play one on TV

one is an accident “spilt” the other is deliberate “poured”.
To: buccaneer81
intentionally pouring soft drink beverage from a large mug over the cash register "Spilt" implies an accident. Intentionally pouring it over most likely an electronic cash register sounds like she intended to damage or destroy.

Offer her 30 days of volunteer work while her Dad is being treated at the facility & let it go.Or just ban her from the place. This stupidity happens a hundred times a day in fast food restaurants. The manager tells the perp to get lost and that's it. Not nice, but rudeness is an everyday trait in some people.

Its easier than going after the Mount Everest of rodent party corruption.Yup. Example: If someone actually pays a price (either their money or their freedom) for hacking Sarah Palin's e-mail, I'll eat my shorts.

How about not wasting money making this a federal case? How about just making her pay for the soda, the clean up time, and banning her from the cafeteria? They are using taxpayer dollars to make this a federal case! Do you wanna pay for it?
