In his own words:
UPDATE: Heres what David Kernell, SoetorObamas hacker, had to say for himself:
Earlier it was just some prank to me, I really wanted to get something incriminating which I was sure there would be, just like all of you anon out there that you think there was some missed opportunity of glory, well there WAS NOTHING, I read everything, every little blackberry confirmation
all the pictures, and there was nothing, and it finally set in, THIS internet was serious business, yes I was behind a proxy, only one, if this shit ever got to the FBI I was fucked, I panicked, i still wanted the stuff out there but I didnt know how to rapidshit all that stuff, so I posted the pass on /b/, and then promptly deleted everything, and unplugged my internet and just sat there in a comatose state.
Sounds like a pretty good confession to me.

I don't think that's entirely accurate. That statement came from the person claiming to be the one who broke into the account. That person used an email address that matches this kid. Hence, the kid is at the center of the investigation. This statement came out yesterday pretty soon after the story broke. I don't think it's been directly attributed to Kernell yet.
However, with all the tracks that were left, I think we'll know for sure pretty quickly.

That’s not necessarily a quote from the kid, Sal. It’s something the hacker posted on the web.

Your quote is from an internet post last night. It is NOT a confession unless it can be proved that he actually posted it.
Maybe they can, but there is no official statement yet.
Below is the quote from the Tennessee paper. All Kernell is admitting is that his son is being investigated...NOT that his son is guilty. Let's not jump the gun on this one.
Quote from paper...
Kernell, a Memphis Democrat, confirmed that it is his 20-year-old son, David, who is being widely named on Internet blogs and chatrooms in connection with an unfolding story about Palin’s hacked e-mail accounts.
