CORNING - A campaign ad by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has drawn fire from Corning Incorporated over its reference to the 2004 closure of a Corning glass plant.
In the commercial, a narrator blames Republican opponent John McCain for sending jobs overseas to China, including jobs at the glass plant in State College, Pennsylvania.
"Corning shuts down its plant in Pennsylvania, hundreds lose their jobs, then the workers are rehired to disassemble the plant and ship the equipment to China. Washington sold them out with the help of people like John McCain," the ad states.
However, Corning Inc. spokeswoman Kelli Hopp-Michlosky said those jobs were never sent to China. She said the plant closed because it made cathode ray tubes, and since the company no longer makes CRTs, those jobs were not needed elsewhere.
"We have been in touch with the Obama campaign on this expressing our displeasure and presenting all the facts so they see how misleading the ad appears. We will continue to speak with them on this," Mopp-Michlosky said
A phone call to the Obama campaign seeking comment was not immediately returned.
0bama lied, freedom died.
.
This sounds like great TV ad and campaign rally stuff for McCain/Palin
They can both whack Obama around!
Other corporations will be loving O’Bummer’s plan to drastically hike corporate taxes!
My Friend’s father was laid off by Corning Glass in Albion Michigan when they relocated the plant to Australia some 30 odd years ago. I have no love for McCain but I doubt he had anything to do with my friend’s dad losing his job.
Hannity, Rush and Levin!!!!
OVER HERE!!! another ad blunder!
Thanks for the clarification, I was thinking of the Pink Panther.
LOL.. The Union and advancements in technology (LCD, Plasma TVs) drove Corning out of town..
[They can both whack Obama around!]
Hope they do. McCain got off to a slow start, Sarah’s good at getting the little ‘dig’ in with a pretty smile, lol.
I sure hope they are spending millions on these foolish ads that they have to quit using. First the Rush ad and now this from the gang who can’t shoot straight.
Obama’s next commercial will be blaming the shut down of the Corning CRT plant on racist rednecks who just HAD to watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup in Hi-Def....
what a moron...
Team Obama will be using the Dan Rather Defense. “the documents where false but I believe the story to be true” (paraphrasing)
Obama is blaming Big Leather & John McCain for the closure of US Buggy-Whip manufacturing.
Since when is lying any barrier to team 0bama?
It’s getting very ugly and I think it will go down hill from here to November. Oy!
>> She said the plant closed because it made cathode ray tubes, and since the company no longer makes CRTs
So... Obama thinks making CRTs is a growth industry?
He’s dangerously out of touch with technology. How can a man that technologically backward possibly lead our high-tech economy?
And don’t get me started about the un-GREEN nature of CRTs...
First Rush then Corning. This is better than when Al Gore said he picked tobacco. Keep it up wackjobs.
The plant is 6 miles away near Penn State. It's addition to the economy compared to the giant life blood sucking socialist enclave known a Penn State University is like comparing a pimple on a fly’s ass to an elephant.
As I remember, the workers there thought so much of their abilities and comfort in their job they had a big strike a year or so before the company left; and even at that time they were extremely well paid for their high school educations (I think that's all you need for the high expectations of being a pimple on a fly’s ass.)
So, with the high cost of labor and the end of CRTs, these people were too stupid to see the writing on the wall - guess they were being advised by some labor studies experts from PSU. (that would be like throwing an anchor to a drowning man.)
Since, the plant has been repopulated with other businesses, but I don't think it's been repopulated with the fatso union bosses who lost their people their jobs - but they got a raise!
wonder how many went from one to the other???
