A new Survey USA poll is in and it shows Barack Obama back on top in the race for president in New Mexico, pulling ahead of Republican John McCain. The poll shows Obama leading McCain by 8 percentage points, 52-44.
The poll indicates that Obama is leading among Hispanic voters. Thats contrary to a poll out last week. It showed the race being much tighter.
"If Obama is indeed up, as this poll suggests, by 41 points among Hispanics, that is a very big change from last week and it could certainly be the difference that Obama is seeing here now that he's up by 8 points," said UNM political science professor Mike Rocca.
Obama is scheduled to rally in Espanola Thursday. Its an event aimed at the Hispanic vote.

Whether this poll is accurate is unclear. The Rasmussen Reports poll, which uses similar methods, shows the race essentially tied.

Never insult someone with a 30 second ad, that has a 3 hour radio show.
I don’t think it hurts him. It fires up his base, and Rush’s audience weren’t going to vote for him anyway.
Depends, if Rush blows up and revives the anger at McCain about Amnesty, then the 30 second ad will be more effective when stretched out to 3 hours via Rush.
Survey USA does come up with odd numbers. In 2006, SUSA showed Steele and Cardin tied for much of the MD Senate race. Earlier this year, SUSA showed Mac and Obama tied in MA. I trust Rasmussen more.
Obama is not going to win the older Hispanic voter and the younger voter is likely not going to vote.
I have been in the real world
Blacks and Hispanics do not get along.
Somebody’s poll is wrong, whose is unclear.
I would not be concerned fieldmarhsalj, Obama’s convention bounce went south, it is not that odd that McCain’s would as well.
Expect a spread of 2-5% until the week before the election in the national polls, and keep in mind McCain has not done that much advertising as of yet.
Keep in mind, Obama is promising outright Amnesty, no pay a fine and learn English, but straight out Amnesty.
That has a powerful effect.
Be wary of Susa they have consistently been in favour of democrats for a long time, they are also known as time bias pollsters. They can be bought.
Probably, but let’s not kid ourselves, this is a tough tough National Election, the media will do anything to attack Sarah Palin and John McCain as too old and too young.
IMO it is better to take the poll at face value, meaning in NM, John McCain has fallen a bit behind anywhere from 6 pts or less.
My “gut” tells me that McCain/Palin will pull out NM though, a neighboring Western state with 2 western candidates, it’s doubtful that McCain will lose it, but there is a chance.

IMO, McCain should really fire both barrels at Obama on the Fannie Mae thing, and he most do it soon, otherwise Obama will own the Economic Issue completely.
That is what he is playing for, McCain’s Campaign had been so great at rapid response, it seems to me that they are dithering a bit too much at the moment.
He’ll keep NM. Remember, they aided and abetted the Texas RATS when they scampered off from their duties a few years years ago.
How many of those polled were here legally?
