Democrats' Drilling Bill Angers Environmental Purists (No worries, ban will expire naturally)
washington post ^ | 9/17/2008 | Mary Ann Akers And Paul Kane

All summer long, House Republicans staged weekly news conferences outside the Capitol calling for more offshore oil drilling. And they were usually met by an assortment of environmental protesters chanting in unison, trying to drown out the GOP's pro-drilling voices. Some even wore polar bear costumes to protest Arctic drilling proposals.

But then Democrats approved a bill Tuesday that could lead to drilling just 50 miles off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, reversing the party's long-standing opposition to exploration of the outer continental shelf.

The enviro wackos are more worried about oil derricks spoiling the views than they are about Americans being able to drive to work and putting food on the table. They have their priorities in order.

Wouldn’t it be a real hoot to take a large, male polar bear to one of these “rallies” and turn him loose on these girlymen in their polar bear suits?

I saw somewhere that President Bush will veto this bill if it passes, although evidently it’s unlikely to make it through the Senate.

Still, I’m curious to know which Republican traitors crossed over to vote for it.

If the “purist” are angry about the prospects of 50 mile offshore drilling then they'll really be angry when the ban expires and drilling is automaticlly allowed 3 miles offshore throughout all the US.

Pelosi needs to admit that President Bush is smarter than her.

The ones that will cross are the few that still represent in the liberal side of the tracks. It's the price the GOP has to pay since they wanted to be the “big tent party”.

"Increased offshore oil drilling would threaten our beloved coasts and beaches with chronic pollution and potentially catastrophic spills while doing little to increase our energy supply and nothing to help Americans deal with energy costs."

The idea that drilling would do little to increase our energy supply and nothing to help Americans deal with energy costs is one of the stupidest statements I've ever seen in print. Where do these people come up with such obvious falsehoods, and why are they even repeated in the MSM? If they knew even the most basic elements of economics they would know they are wrong. These people can't be spending all their time in the forests hugging trees, eating berries and tree bark...surely they've had some education...right?

This is a ploy to stifle us getting oil. Over 95 percent of the 10 billion barrel oil reserves off California is under 50 miles off the Pacific coast! We need to drill within 50 miles to get any substantial drilling results. The Democrats are evil.

This is PERFECT. The donks have PO’d the envirowackos, plus GW is going to veto the bill, thereby letting the ban expire and openning up the whole OCS. I’m tempted to credit Karl Rove, that magnificent /b/@s####, but I’m afraid I’ll have to chalk this one up to donk incompetence.

That generally doesn't work out too well for the guys in the suits.

Hey tobeyhill nice to see you but you forgot the bull horn in the butt with nelson ha ha-ing. Also instead of a real polar bear which would be next to impossible, just “adopt” a bunch of the really mean dogs from the local ASPCA and put polar bear costumes on them and turn them loose on the girly men....have pitbull, will travel! I am glad to find a like mind in these times

bumper-sticker

Contact your Congress critters to let them that you know the best oil is located in the first 50-mile range, shoreline to 50-mile point.

U. S. Senate

U. S. House of Representatives

Send Nancy’s email to:

http://www.speaker.gov/contact/

And un-elect all the dimocrats who will not support drilling EVERYWHERE!

And likewise forget about the environmentalists. They have cars too. LOL!
