Rush Limbaugh, featured in a new, Spanish-language Barack Obama ad, says the commercial distorts his past statements and amounts to "race-baiting" by the Democratic nominee.
The commercial, to air in Limbaugh's home state of Florida as well as Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, features a picture of the conservative talk show host and shows his words on the screen: "Mexicans are stupid and unqualified" and "Shut your mouth or get out." It was first reported by the Washington Post's Ed O'Keefe.
"Obama is now stoking racism in the country," Limbaugh wrote in an email. "Obama is a disgrace - he wants the public to think he is Mr. Nice Guy while his thugs are in Alaska looking for dirt on Palin and he runs race-baiting ads and lies about what he has done and what McCain has done."
As for the quotes, Limbaugh said they were taken out of context.
The first, "stupid and unqualified," is from the NAFTA debate of the mid-90s, he recalled. He didn't specify how it was distorted, but said he and his staff were researching the context.
On "shut your mouth," Limbaugh produced an April 2006 transcript from what he described as a parody of Mexican immigration laws.
The talk show host read a list of stringent rules, adding "shut your mouth and get out," before revealing to listeners that the guidelines were those set by the Mexican government for immigrants.
The full bit is after the jump and I'll add the context on the first quote when I get it from either Obama's camp or Limbaugh.
McCain launched his own Spanish-language ad last week blaming Obama for the collapse of immigration reform last week, striking a more moderate tone on the issue than his border security-focused stance in the GOP primary. Polls show Obama leading among Hispanic voters, but McCain is making an aggressive push for their support as they represent a key constituency in key states such as Florida and the competitive states in the intterior west.
0 and Gibson took the same Dimocrat seminar, and learned to short quote their opponents. How clever.
I guess Obabambi has decided to through caution, truth, integrity and sanity to the wind. I’m no attorney but this ad strikes me as libelous.
RUSH needs to take to Obama like he did to Dingy Harry. I’d suggest at least a week worth of airtime.
See my explanation of short quoting here:

If Rush wants to run a counter ad, and set the record straight, he can count on my contribution.
Ditto
unfortunately, more than a few conservative immigration zealots took a on a hateful anti-Hispanic tone instead of a rational pro-law and security tone. This could cost us the election and will result in even more illegals entering the country and create a permanent Democrat majority.

I’m not specifically talking about limbaugh. Many conservatives expressed a lot of emotion against Hispanics during the immigration debate.
Rush, you need to start a 527, you would have $100million in donations within a week. Then....a serious case of fact filled whoop-a** will descend upon the Messiah.
Evidently there is no limit to how low they will sink for power. It's scary.
It was a distortion used by Biden at Mr. Thomas’ Senate hearing for his judicial nomination. Mr. Biden is unfit to serve this country.
If I was Rush and had several hundred million bucks, I would make Bambi pay severely by running ten million dollars of my own ads against him.
So you are saying that a fake but accurate report ascribing such comments to Rush Limbaugh is okay?
And the Mexican government’s own stance against immigrants and foreign protesters is A-OK?
Should we also be a united nation that learns to speak Spanish, as Mr. Obama has insisted (they don’t need to learn English, WE should learn Spanish, the rest of the world laughs at us because we aren’t fluent in multiple languages).
The DNC would love to campaign against Rush Limbaugh. He’ll be smart if he doesn’t take the bait and run ads for them to “respond to”.
He has 3-4 hours a day (one hour of periodic extra broadcasting for subscribers).
I never got into those debates on FR but I heard about them.
