-- Ayelet Waldman e-mailed a few writer friends asking them to donate signed books she could auction as an "instant library" at a Barack Obama fundraiser hosted by Alice Waters in Berkeley on Sept. 26. She's received hundreds, from the likes of Stephen King, Ann Packer, Khaled Husseini, Jodi Picoult, Jonathan Lethem, Anne Tyler, Steve Martin, Jamie Lee Curtis and others.

Khaled Husseini
Who is this? Is there a connection between his last name and BO middle name? How tight is this little club. BARF!

incidentally, Eyelet is married to another of your favorite authors, Michael Chabon, and they both, as well as Alice Waters, live in Berzerkeley, CA, 94704, if I’m not mistaken, one of the choicest zip codes in the land.

Khaled Husseini
Who is this? Is there a connection between his last name and BO middle name? How tight is this little club. BARF! Born in Afghanistan and author of The Kite Runner (his first published book) and A Thousand Splendid Suns. The fist is a fictional tale (I guess) of an upper class Afghani boy whose life changes drastically in the revolution of 1975. I like his narrator's "voice," and he's already wryly exposed the foolishness of a radical mullah. Sorry I can't tell more, but I'm just getting into it.
The short author bio says Hosseini moved to the States in '80 & lives in California. Two years ago, he 'was named a U.S. goodwill envoy to the United Nations Refugee Agency.' (Yeah, I know ...)
