McCain Spars With ‘Morning Joe’ Co-Host
The Caucus Blog (NYT) ^ | September 16, 2008 | Brian Stelter

John McCain’s campaign has made a sport of criticizing the media in recent weeks. Now they may be trying a related tactic: surmising the political affiliations of journalists.

In an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Tuesday morning, Mr. McCain immediately changed the tenor of the conversation with co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski when he called Ms. Brzezinski a “supporter of Senator Obama.” Mr. McCain appeared on MSNBC and other morning TV shows to comment on the economy.

Ms. Brzezinski had brought up Mr. Obama’s campaign ad highlighting Mr. McCain’s statement that the “fundamentals of our economy are strong.” Mr. McCain side-stepped the question of whether that ad was fair and said: “I still say to you – and I know you’re a supporter of Senator Obama – if you would urge him to come and do town hall meetings with me, as I’ve asked him to do time after time, the whole tenor of the campaign would change.”

Ms. Brzezinski bristled at the comment, saying: “Supporter of Senator Obama? I’m not sure I would characterize myself that way.”

Later, she repeated her objection and reminded viewers that her brother, Ian Brzezinski, is working on Mr. McCain’s campaign.

“Take care of my brother,” she said to Mr. McCain. “Say hi to Ian for me.”

The exchange prompted Mr. Scarborough to tell viewers that he’s “just joking” when he calls Ms. Brzezinski an Obama supporter.

The day before, a McCain adviser used similar rhetoric while speaking with Chris Matthews on MSNBC. “It’s a very tough time for your party,” Mr. Matthews concluded, while speaking with Nancy Pfotenhauer, a senior policy adviser for Mr. McCain. “Tough time for yours too,” she responded, smiling the entire time.

Well, it doesn't take to much effort to "surmise" when it comes to who the media is biased against here, but I thought Nancy Pftotenhaeur really zinged Chrissy Matthews.

Will McCain say the same thing to Larry King next time he’s on?

"...Nancy Pftotenhaeur really zinged Chrissy Matthews."

What was that about? What did I miss?
Do you suppose it's on YouTube?

Every time a Republican has to endure a so-called interview (inquisition) with the MSM, they need to point out that the bias in their questions, tone and attitude is not going unnoticed-they need it continuously thrown back in their faces. I hope this is an orchestrated and deliberate trend by the McCain camp.

I have a logic immune liberal relative,

does that make me less conservative?

"Nancy Pfotenhaeur"

I just watched Chrissie's interview of 9/15, and I failed to see any real zinger; she handled him OK, but...

This is a brilliant tactic! I intend to use it at cocktail parties:

Liberal in Austin bragging about Prius:

“What kind of car do you drive?”

Me:

“Well I know you are a supporter of Global Cooling... so I understand why you might be surprised to know I drive a Diesel 4x4 Extra Long Bed Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab.”

I with every Republican that they interview would hold up a que card that says ( Main Stream Media is biased ) during the interview, and if the MSM objects... then the Republican can say “ It's my FREE SPEECH “

I saw it as Chrissy trying to be partonizing by expressing faux sympathy for the Republican, and Nancy put him in his place as the Obama shill that he is.

McCain should have told Mika to get out of Joe's lap. No wonder he's so crazy all the time, and has no clue as to what he's saying.

“Supporter of Senator Obama? I’m not sure I would characterize myself that way.”

Not sure? How can you not be sure about something like that?
