Looking at this and other polls:

The Republican name brand is clearly on the rise in this state (and may be nationwide).

McCain and Palin are reconnecting us with women and suburban voters.

I suspect this accounts for our surge in the purple states from Pennsylvania through Minnesota, and sudden competitiveness in New Jersey and New York.

Polls that weight for party affiliation (about half of them) will be under-stating McCain’s strength until and unless they re-calibrate their weights.

“There is a troubling trend for Barack Obama of undecided white voters in many of the swing states moving into John McCain’s camp,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “He’s going to be in trouble if he can’t get that turning back in the other direction.”

During the next 7 weeks, look for Reverend Wright and the terrorist Ayers to appear often in TV commercials to remind those voters why Obama bothers them.

That will only get us to 269 EC votes (unless you are counting NV or NM).

I think those trends are likely to hold. Good news for McCain!

Obama is just not trustworthy and voters instinctively know it. Those insticts will kick in even stronger once they step into the voting booth...

I just don’t see Obama taking VA. Just don’t see it. Bush won by 9 pts and 8 pts. That is just too big of a swing towards Obama. Why would Bush voters swing to a left-winger like Obama? I could see GOP voters mad a McCain on certain positions he has taken but those disagreements wouldn’t swing them to Obama.

factoring in the lopsided polling that includes more democrats - It's probably safe to figure that McCain is further ahead than these polls say - something I'm sure the demRats and the obambites are well aware of.

and Ohio is key - but lots of ACORN multiple voters that they feel will take care of the vote

Yeah but if Mac keeps ahead of Obama and snatches Michigan (doable) then the whole calculation crumbles for O.

The Democrat theme song on election day is, “Zombie Jamboree” by Harry Belafonte. It took place in a New York cemetery, you know.

We really just need to win Ohio, Virginia and Colorado.

That would leave McCain 5 EVs short. He will also need either NM (5 EVs) or NV (5 EVs). If he doesn't get either NM or NV, NH (4 EVs) would not put him over the top. It would be a 269-269 tie.

Bottom line, it will come down to whoever takes 2 out of 3 CO, NV, and NM

Another very possible scenario is:

Mccain takes NH (4 EVs)
McCain takes ME CD-2 (1 EV)

Then he does not need: PA, MI, NM, IA, or NV.

I think NV is in the bag and quite likely MI,OH,FL.

They will call the race at 11:01 eastern on Nov 4th.

The RATS are dreaming if they think it’s going to be close.

Outside of NH, I think our best pickup opportunity is now Pennsylvania, and not Michigan. Rasmussen has PA tied at 47% each with McCain at a +8% favorable rating.

Yes, if Mac gets CO. If he wins NH and ME-CD2, and NV, then he does not need CO, NM, or IA. We are looking quite good in PA.

Good point. How plausible is it that Maine could throw one EV our way. they have two RINO senators and IIRC, the voter registration between the two parites is about even.

Can you imagine what would happen if it was a 269-269 tie? I know what would happen procedurally, but the thought is frightening.

Apparently it is very plausible for CD-2 in Maine to go McCain’s way. Even the Obama pollster at Roll Call listed it as a toss-up.

I would like to see a commisioned poll on CD-2.

Word has it that McCain could very well win that one EV. Bush only lost it by a tiny chunk of votes in 2004.

Send the hockey mom. Hockey is huge in maine. I know first hand. I played one of their “B” teams with a travelling Jersey “All Star” team. I don’t think we touched the puck the entire game. Lost all the fights too.
