Barack Obama needs to work harder to make the sale
SeattlePI.com ^ | September 12, 2008 | THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN

If John McCain can win this election race with a 50-pound ball called "George W. Bush" wrapped around one ankle and a 50-pound ball called "The U.S. Economy" wrapped around the other, then he deserves to represent America in the next Olympics in any race he wants -- swimming, cycling or track -- I don't care how old he is. He would be the Michael Phelps of politics.

I confess, I watch politics from afar, but here's what I've been feeling for a while: Whoever slipped that Valium into Barack Obama's coffee needs to be found and arrested by the Democrats because Obama has gone from cool to cold.

Somebody needs to tell Obama that if he wants the chance to calmly answer the phone at 3 a.m. in the White House, he is going to need to start slamming down some phones at 3 p.m. along the campaign trail. I don't think people are feeling it in their guts, and I am a big believer that voters don't listen through their ears. They listen through their stomachs.

If you as a politician connect with voters on a gut level, they will follow you anywhere and not fret about the details. If you don't connect with them on a gut level, you can't show them enough details. Obama early on, and particularly with young people, connected on a gut level like no other politician since Ronald Reagan.

Obama needs to do what he has always done. Steal the election.

I love this clueless advice! Keep it up, maybe Obama can get his campaign popularity down below even congressional approval numbers!

All the hateful left knows how to do is suggest screaming and lying.

He needs to show us why he belongs in the position of POTUS. He hasn’t said a word besides I am the one and change.

He is suppossed to be taken seriously? I have seen people on the show THE APPRENTICE take more heat and questioning than him.

He wouldn’t make it bast an initial interview as an applicant. No experience, no management skills, done some community org work, looking for top position and money.

No one should breeze into public office but this hasn’t even been enough to call it a CAKE WALK for him.

And Friedman thinks the angry, scowling Obama is going to be more successful than the grinning one? With friends like Friedman, Barry doesn’t need enemies.

But, that's the very problem with Obama.... he is a empty suit... no substance.... all fluff.

You know what they call a salesman that works too hard to get the sale? The one that lost the commision.

Does anyone see McCain totally busting his hump to get this job? Nope. I see a guy making good solid choices like a CEO should. I see a guy travelling around in confidence; i see a man acting and being Presidential.

And so does the rest of the country.

Mr Friedman, he can’t work any harder. This is what you get when you have a candidate that got to where he did by affirmative action.

Obama has never had to work, now you are asking him to do something he has never done.

Why should McCain be held responsible for the Bush administration and the economy? Even if McCain is responsible, which he’s not, what makes anyone think Obama is better? Do people honestly believe more taxes and more government programs will solve problems largely brought about by excessive government in the first place?

The rumor that the majority of the Lame Stream Media is in the tank for The Messiah is greatly exaggerated and simply a plot advanced by the vast right wing conspiracy.

BIO: Thomas L. Friedman won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, his third Pulitzer for The New York Times. He became the paper's foreign-affairs columnist in 1995. EMPHASIS ADDED.

" WHOEVER SLIPPED THAT VALIUM INTO BARACK OBAMA'S COFFEE NEEDS TO BE FOUND AND ARRESTED BY THE DEMOCRATS BECAUSE OBAMA HAS GONE FROM COOL TO COLD."

Now for all you right wing Freepers, this is NOT an endorsement for the Chosen One, nor any indication of Friedman's support; simply a "columnist" reporting the news impartially and objectively.

RIGHT!!!!

Throw Joe Biden off the ticket, and put Tina Fey on.

Probably still could not craft a win, but man, would he ever muddy the waters.

I don't know whether anyone else did or not, but I checked out the “Comments”. Considering this was a Seattle paper, there were a remarkable number for McCain/Palin. I was very pleasantly surprised!

Please pray for Sarah Plain and John McCain and their families.

Psalm 3

1. Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

2. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

3. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

4. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

5. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

6. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

7. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

8. Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

Let’s be honest. John McCain may very well have a pair of 50-pound balls, but they’re not labeled “Dubya” and “The Economy”.

What a travesty.

An undistinguished local politician with no accomplishments and no plans wants to be President?

C'mon, Tom - lay off the Kool-Aid. It was NEVER going to happen.

This is what you get when you have a candidate that got to where he did by affirmative action.

Why do you think a mediocre HS student who was stoned half the time got into Columbia? And what did he accomplish there?

How difficult was it for black applicants who could put two words together to get into Harvard Law School in 1989? For that matter, how difficult is it now? And has there EVER been another President of the Harvard Law Review who has failed to submit or to publish a single scholarly article on the law? EVER?

Imagine how thrilled the Harvard faculty was to find this charismatic somewhat-black kid who could speak so well! Conversations around the faculty lounge in 1990 must have sounded like Joe Biden: “He’s so CLEAN!”

Well, if Brother Obama’s fan club is going to use his towering intellect as a qualification for the Presidency (and I’m seeing this resume-based argument all over the place now), they are going to have to come up with some evidence of actual scholarly activity, which occurred either at Columbia or at Harvard. Unfortunately for them, there is no such evidence.

And among actually intelligent people who are not already in the tank for Obama, everybody knows why.

Just wish people could reason and use logic once in a while.

The left is getting more and more radical and more daring at showing its real face. 2000 election they claim republicans “stole”?

They were willing to throw out votes of US armed aervices personel, but wanted to count every vote?

Throwing the US into termoil for months just to see if enough votes could be shifted or thrown out to give them a win. To them the END justify the MEANS.

Any values other than theirs are enenlightend and wrong. SO to cheat and lie to you is ok they are doing it for your own good.

They want to increase our enlightment by being more Progressive/LIBERAL.

Making us socialists and thus popular in the WORLD.

HOw close is he to the LEADER of the FREE world, and what do you know about him. His campaign will make the 2000 election seem like it ran clean and smooth. Every race hustler and charlaton will be screaming RACE WAR from the roof tops. WHITEY STOLE THIS ELECTION FROM A BLACK MAN.
