Schweitzer 'joke' may have grain of truth By JENNIFER McKEE Gazette State Bureau
UPDATE 3:30 p.m. : HELENA - Gov. Brian Schweitzer said this week he was "just joking" this summer when he suggested he tampered with the hotly-contested 2006 Senate election.
However, at least one Big Horn County observer was escorted out of a Crow Indian polling place that election night, (snip) Schweitzer has been criticized this week for remarks he made to a lawyers group in Philadelphia this July. In the remarks, Schweitzer insinuates that he tampered with election to secure a victory for Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester over incumbent Sen. Conrad Burns.
Schweitzer told the group that Democrats wanted to make sure American Indians turned out to vote because they generally vote Democratic.
Schweitzer said Democrats had a plan to have tribal police attempt to arrest poll observers on bogus charges. (snip) He said he called the election office and talked to an election clerk who was "as nervous as a pregnant nun."
As a Catholic woman, McMahon said she was offended by Schweitzer's "pregnant nun" comment and demanded an apology on behalf of all women.
She said she is angry over Schweitzer's suggestions that Butte elections could be fixed.
(snip) In the July speech, Schweitzer said there was no room for error in the 2006 Senate race, so "we were prepared."
"And the advantage is, you know, when you've got a governor of a state on your side, whoa!" a transcript of the speech says. "You can turn some dials and we did."
Tester wound up defeating Burns by only about 3,500 votes out of around 406,500 cast in a three-way race.

This also brings to questions rumors of an Operation Montana Chaos where supporters for Sen. Max Baucus crossed over and voted in the GOP primary for the weakest candidat Bob Kelleher who has run for office as member of the Green Party, Libertarian Party and Democrat party in the past.
Can someone repeat what he said because it was rather harsh against Fox.
BTW; Isn't he a rather fat little turd looking fellow.
Schweitzer apologized Wednesday for these remarks in his speech to the American Association for Justice and denied interfering in the election.
First many criminals are caught after bragging about their crime. Two this man has no respect for Montanans to say something like this if he did not do it. Shameful either way.

"I was just joking around and making it colorful," Schweitzer said. "I can now see it was offensive to some people, and Im deeply sorry if I offended anyone."

Sorry had to repost with proper italics.
he is completely a turd looking fellow. He is from Havre and clearly is all over himself at all this attention. Very partisan. I am surprised Montanans like him so much.
The Democrats have done to Indians what they have done to Blacks! And STUPID Indians and Blacks LOVE voting for their own demise.
I thought Montana was a MANLY state, but Max Baucus and now Schwietzer?? YIKES....GIRLIE MAN STATE!
Ping for later
I know what you mean. I don't know WHAT's happenin' up there. They must 'av all moved to Alaska! :-)
Vote fraud??
I thought Obama was “organizing” in Illinios, not Montana.
Some joke.
According to one very reliable source I know, poll watchers were physically threatened by groups of thugs after they saw and tried to intervene against election workers sifting through ballots on the Blackfeet rez, tossing out GOP votes. They left as instructed in fear of their safety.
The outcome was something like 4,000 to 100 in favor of Tester at one precinct.
This story made the rounds the week of the election. And, as I say, it was no joke but a commentary as business as usual on the rez. Now if such behavior was reported to law enforcement and no action taken based on instructions from Gov. Blowhard in a bolo tie . . .
In fairness, I must add I did not witness the allegations and only mention them because Schweitzer himself brings up the topic. To him of the huge face, it’s a joke. To me, and a lot of Montanans, he’s the joke.
If this story ever was investigated, we might have a new gov this election cycle.
*ping*
The American Indian is another sad story similar to the American black — Indians’ heritage was one of independent self-supporting survival. They have now been turned into wards of the goobermint. Thus of course, they vote Democrat.
Just an aside:
I wonder How Todd Palin being a native American affects all this?
Bookmarked.
“I wonder How Todd Palin being a native American affects all this?”
If you ever want to see some really rampant, vicious down-and-dirty racism, go hang at your neighborhood rez.
Right after targeting the good old reliable Whitey, the local Tribe doesn’t have much use for any...and I mean ANY...other tribe. Especially if it might affect the amount of money their pet politicians deliver to them for their votes.
Run on down to the Crow reservation and mention that Palin is Native American, the first question will be “What Tribe?”. If the answer ain’t Crow, he ain’t sh**.
Let me explain in a few words what has been happening for decades in places like Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Liberal d!psh!ts emmigrate from places like California and begin to adversely affect the demographics.
There are two types of Californians (not the only place these d!psh!ts come from): those who move in and want us to be become like CA, and those who move in because they want to live like we have for 150 years. The second type are welcome.
