I have always believed that the first black president and the first female president would be conservatives. Liberal ones may come later, but the first ones would be conservatives. Only conservative blacks and women can garner the trust of middle America, who would be appalled, threatened, and repelled by the politics of a liberal black, with all that baggage, or a liberal woman, with her hordes of screaming lesbian feminists in tow. No one in middle America wants to grant more power to these distasteful groups, much less put them in the White House.
I would honestly like to see a black or a woman in the Oval Office. So would most Americans, for varying reasons. But not Obama, and not Hillary. More temperate representatives of their gender and race must be found.
Absolutely, excellent post.
I've told every member of my liberal black family the same thing, and they look at me like I'm speaking gibberish.
It has never occurred to them, nor to Randall Kennedy, that Obama looks entirely different to middle America than he does to most blacks and the hard-core left. Their echo chamber doesn't admit facts, data, or any competing analysis of their candidate.
Sadly, that mindset has hobbled their ability to chose winning candidates and has contributed greatly to the destruction of their party.
Now, you all may logically ask, how can I say this when nearly half the US is planning to vote for Obama, the most left-leaning of senators? I think it's because many of the people who support him don't look past the inspiring rhetoric to realize how extremely liberal he is. It's our job to educate them. Some liberals will never change, as he really does represent their views, but many others support him because they just don't know. If they did, they'd be shocked and frightened.
