Growing up, my family always used a machete for chickens.

Indeed, and far too much reality for the vast majority of 'journalists' as well but in all fairness I commend Emily Smith for giving it a try...which is far more than the vast majority of others in her profession have done.

Agreed, but I think also that her frame of reference and life experience is understood and appreciated by a great many decent, normal folk outside of Alaska as well, and this is one of the numerous factors that may well propel her into the Oval Office with not only a win, but a spectacular, massive win.
