ISRAELS foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, has moved into a strong lead in the race to take over the governing party, putting her in line to become the countrys first woman prime minister since Golda Meir became the original Iron Lady nearly 40 years ago.
Polls put Livni 15 points ahead in the Kadima partys leadership contest, in which voting takes place this week. She is expected to replace Ehud Olmert, the prime minister whose entanglement in corruption allegations led him to announce last week that he would resign once the new leader is elected.

She’ll probably be like Golda Meir.
golda was our hero in grade school
because she once lived in denver.
“She is not an Iron Lady. More like a Marshmallow Lady”
Caroline Glick is Israel’s Iron lady. She’ll be in Bibi’s next government.
Probably like Golda Meir in '73 when she was informed of the Arab intent to attack on Yom Kippur and let it happen instead of taking pre-emptive action, in order to get world opinion. A lot of Israeli boys died because of this decision, and Israel didn't get "world opinion" either.
When will people in Israel learn not to elect corrupt, appeasing leaders?
When an Iranian nuclear bomb hits Israel and kills half the country :(
Women have been known to kick some butt, sir.
There is nothing more dangerous than a mother protecting their young (cat, dog, coyote, bear).
Yes, put a woman in office and let her lead.
I wouldn’t NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM vote for a woman because she happens to be woman.
When it comes to opening a can of whupass, though, you don’t want to be pissing off a woman.
The tiny country, Israel, needs a leader in these times.
Israel is the most democratic, free society in the world. This country also produces more intellectuals, cures for diseases, breakthroughs in research, than any other, and while surrounded by people who want to kill HER, her very existance.
Let those who will lead, lead:
. . . and those who can’t, be defeated.
Oh yay /s
I married a woman 20 years ago who could cover my back in a bar fight...
for some stange reason...she still loves me...
Yes, I have been there.
I decided decades ago NOT to be like my parents.
I don’t like arguing, and would rather clean a toilet than fuss and fight.
However, I am a hillbilly woman up in Tennessee, and had to do a LOT more than my share of fighting.
I win, can’t imagine the alternative.
I am as laid back as it gets, but I’ve had to fight some battles, and I go into these with the notion (conviction) I will win.
Anyway, I wouldn’t vote for a woman because she has the same gender as me. If a woman comes along (a tough one) I would vote for the tenacity, the same things I pull the lever for when I vote for a man.
All women aren’t stupid, some of them rock, and rule!!!! All of them ain’t watching those airheads on TV in the daytime (Barb WaWa, Whoppie, etc.). Some of us have brains and vote, and more important things to do than watch a bunch of babbling liberal airheaded women.
girlangler!!! Fish scare me, and I scare them sometimes (Not often enough, I need to go and conquer the fish).
Kadima is corrupt to the core and will be very bad news for Israel if that crowd remains in the ‘leadership’. Likud needs to straighten things out.
Enough with these Olmert-Perez-Barak wimps. When’s the next election? Where’s Netanyahu?
Upon reading her bio seems you are correct in your assessment.
Shaul Mofaz bio leads me to think he would be a better choice. The guy kicks butt.
Honestly...I feel pretty much the same as Ted Nugent...
For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my Party...*snicker*
The London Times has consistently been very anti-Israel and pro-terrorist. IMO, the Times is promoting its preferred (anti-defense) Party in Israel.
not sure what to make of her in this photo....except may God be with her
Livini is Condi Rice with no spine! All talk and babble...not trustworthy, Israel needs better.
