When Ramadan began Sept. 1, workers said supervisors informally gave them time to break their daylong fast at sundown.
But non-Muslim employees protested, and on Friday, JBS Swift & Co. officials refused to give workers break time to pray and eat.
About 400 workers left the company's meatpacking plant, which dominates this city of 90,000. By Tuesday, 250 had not returned, and Swift warned that those who didn't come back faced immediate termination. ...

A private company is making its own employment decisions? Good. A job is not a lifelong claim on your employer, and I'm glad that those who create the jobs still have the freedom to make these decisions based on whatever business criteria or otehr reasons they wish. In the case of unskilled workers demanding extensive special treatment, I completely understand this decision. If I knew of JBS Swift products available in my area, I'd buy them.
We just dont need these folks. My uncle made a living as a butcher he wasnt halal but he is a decent guy.

We don’t use commercial meats ......we slaughter beef, pork and chicken products from local ranchers and farmers and let local butchers process it for us in bulk each year. We fish and hunt for venison and fowl as well and properly preserve that harvested product or share excess with others as we can.
