Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has agreed to meet with San Francisco's archbishop to clarify remarks she made during an interview with Tom Brokaw.
In a recent interview on Meet the Press, Representative Pelosi (D-California) told Brokaw that the issue of when life begins remains controversial within the Catholic Church. Her comments angered many Catholic leaders who are now questioning whether Pelosi should be able to continue receiving communion.
Steve Dillard is a member of the Catholics for McCain steering committee. Pelosi, he says, is "fundamentally wrong."
"There is no controversy [about abortion] within the [Catholic] Church. The church's teaching is crystal clear -- it has always been crystal clear, it has never deviated," says Dillard. "What she is trying to do is to go back into a time where you're dealing [with the question] about when does ensoulment occur.
"That issue has nothing to do with the church's stand that life always begins at conception, and that life is to be protected from the moment of conception -- and that abortion is never listed [as an option]."
According to Dillard, the Catholic Church does not allow for any dissent from this teaching. "If you dissent from the church's teaching on abortion, you are basically breaking your communion with the church; you are not fully in communion with the church," he explains. "And if you directly participate in the procurement of an abortion, you are basically automatically ex-communicated."
Dillard says Pelosi is engaging in scandal by perpetuating falsehoods about church teachings, and he contends that she needs to be further rebuked.

I am really glad that they're not letting this issue drop

I doubt the meeting was set up to allow her to “clarify” her remarks. I suspect it was set up to allow the Bishop to teach her what her faith believes.

It would have happened if any number of other bishops had been in SF. There's a number that aren't afraid to pull that trigger and not just do it, but publish a Bull.

So now Nancy Pelosi is a theologian? Does she compare herself to Martin Luther? Will she post were 99 Thesis to the door of the Vatican? Will she demand that the Church discard sin?

If she's a slow learner they'll send home a note telling her failure to understand could lead to excommunication. Wouldn't that be special?

Pelosi is fundamentally wrong on everything. Some individuals hide when brains are passed out and Pelosi was on a smoking break when this process happened.

The bishops are speaking out and I predict there will be more to add to this list from American Papist next week.

... Bishop James Conley, his auxiliary, joined him
-

... Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport, chairman of the Committee on Doctrine, joined him
-

{Last updated on September 10th.}
Notes:
-
Previous #23 has been removed. Bishop Joseph Gossman of Raleigh, NC is actually the bishop emeritus, and the new bishop, Michael Burbidge has not, to my knowledge, made a personal statement.
-
Previous #16 has also been removed, it was an erroneous duplication of current #13.
-
#26 was added September 10th, although he published his column September 6th

Even if a boter supports abortion by voting for an abortion supporting candidate (mostly dimocrats) then he/she is also excommunicated.
A trip to the Sacrament of Reconcilation will be required before they can then receive Communion again.

Pelosi an other Catholic Democrats don't care.
It's all about COVETING money from others. Coveting and redistributing is AGAINST Christianity too but NO ISSUE is made of that. It's CLEAR that money trumps what is RIGHT.

Here's
the transcript of that part of Pelosi's interview.
She says the Church has only adopted the "moment of conception" standard for life in the past 50 years or so. According to this 1907 article in Catholic Encyclopedia, that's not true.
But she won't be denied communion or even chastized by the Church. She'll say she "misspoke," offer "clarification" and go right on to her next lie. Just like Jon Carry.

Does anyone really think that Peloski cares what the Catholic Church thinks? I do not.

Here's
video of Pelosi making her statement, along with some withering commentary from her fellow Catholics.

A couple weeks ago, our parish priest took Nancy to the woodshed and I learned a little history. In my opinion well worth the read :-)
Too bad most of the bishops are too PC to say the uncomfortable.

“Unfortunately, or providentially, their hands were forced. They had to react to the public remarks made by a Catholic Politician,Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, as she publicly defended abortion on Meet the Press last
Sunday. She argued over the history of the church, this is an issue of controversy. and disingenuously sought to defend herself by twisting the teaching of the greatest theologian in the history of the Church, St.
Augustine. For the record, and summarizing the bishops responses: this is a load of bunk.”
The second link is by a lawyer (no less) supporting the sermon.

“It took a simple parish priest, however, to say it most eloquently. This weekend, Fr. John De Celles, an associate pastor at Old St. Marys Church in Alexandria, Va., delivered a homily squarely confronting Pelosi and her
thinking, but put the debate an interesting historical context.”
