McCain Flies His Campaign Past Obama
RASMUSSENREPORTS ^
Posted on 09/13/2008 7:23:00 AM PDT by Brad Ferrell
John McCain was trained as a fighter pilot. In his selection of Sarah Palin, and in his convention and campaigning since, he has shown that he learned an important lesson from his fighter pilot days: He has gotten inside Barack Obama's OODA loop.
That term was the invention of the great fighter pilot and military strategist John Boyd. It's an acronym for Observe, Orient, Decide, Act.
"The key to victory is operating at a faster tempo than the enemy," Boyd's biographer Robert Coram writes. "The key thing to understand about Boyd's version is not the mechanical cycle itself, but rather the need to execute the cycle in such a fashion as to get inside the mind and decision cycle of the adversary."

Isn’t this idea from FreeRepublic. Didn’t someone here write it first?

Yes. The “McCain’s gotten inside Barak’s OODA loop” line was used here five or six days ago. Sorry I don’t remember who used it.

But you know what? If you google the phrase
"inside Obama's OODA loop" you come up with several hits on an article in
The American Thinker by Charlie Martin. Here's a link
to FR's handling of said article.

Using keyword OODA, I found several articles here but none by a Freeper. But this isn’t an original idea in reference to McCain.

Michael Barone just wrote a great article on it too with credit to blogger but I remember seeing it hear a week or so ago and wondering what it meant...

It had crossed my mind after the Palin pick. I thought McCain was thinking like a fighter pilot. He essentially barrel rolled Obama and dropped in on his tail with lots of speed.
The enemy now has tactics that no longer fit the fight. Everything they try falls flat and everything McCain does scores a hit. Pretty soon the Obama campaign will have nothing left of any tactical value and they will fight with hot emotion and not determined logic.
I expect them to get uglier. I expect an October Surprise. Expect McCain to blow their wings off.

Is the”OODA LOOP”similar to the”Thach Weave”?This was a manuever(named after int’s inventor,Lt.Commander John”Jimmy”Thach).He was a celebrated US Navy aviator(WWII).
To: Brad Ferrell
Yup. Palin lit McCain’s afterburner and flew right past Obama, who asked, “WhOODAt?”

I think it was me, on 9/29.Not bragging but you asked. BTW it is wondeful to see a true Patriot like Col. John Boyd finally getting some of the praise his service to his county merited.

Is theOODA LOOPsimilar to theThach Weave? No, the weave is an actual manuever, the 'OODA loop' concept is an intellectual process of out-thinking than out executing the opponent. Manuevers arise from the 'OODA Loop' process, but the it remains mental.

No i don't think it would be since the OODA Loop is a decision making construct by which you can make decisions. You look at what your opponent is doing and try to find ways to disrupt his decision making. Like trying to find a way to force him into a position where you can use your strengths to neutralize him.
Where as the Thatch Weave was more of a tactical maneuver designed to use teamwork again a single opponent.
