The most important voters in close races are the ones that candidates can count on to show up on Election Day and seniors may just become the new "soccer moms" in this presidential election.
Older Americans have the highest turnout rate of any age group 69 percent in 2004. And they'll wield clout in this tight presidential contest because a number of the swing states, like Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, have a lot of older residents.
"Despite the media's focus on the youth vote, the most influential voters in the McCain-Obama matchup are likely to have some gray hair," said Susan McManus, the author of Targeting Senior Voters.
Older people, who make up 24 percent of the electorate, are "called senior citizens for a reason," said Robert Binstock, a professor of aging, health and society at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. "They register to vote. They volunteer ... and they cast ballots."

This was after the article. I’ve long felt these numbers to be a national disgrace.
Turnout by age group in the 2004 presidential election:
69%
65 and older
67%
45 to 64
52%
25 to 44
42%
18 to 24
I understand most people vote in their own self interest, but that's just a little wacky.
No disrespect meant for your grandma, but it doesn't sound like she has a long term view of things for this country. Replacing capitalism with socialism is a cop out. Have you brought up the long-term implications of Obama's plan (or lack of plan) with her and how it will affect you in the future? BTW, I have a few relatives myself that only think of themselves and have no regard for this country as long as they get their own special interests fulfilled. Cradle to grave government care is always a bad idea.
We will vote in droves...
AND for not using email(failing to mention his injuries keep him from typing on a keyboard, which might resonate with many seniors who have arthritis and are unable to type on a keyboard)even though he does email at night with his wife Cindy typing for him.
You can take it to the bank that McCain can't type on a keyboard. It was mentioned in a news article in 2000 that McCain does his email at night with his wife Cindy typing the responses because he has great difficulty in typing. Obama has stepped in it big time and by Monday this will be on Rush and all over the internet. Of course the MSM will not mention it, they are already skirting around it.
Also, McCain learned early on the benefit of using the internet and set up a team in 2000 to learn as much about it as they could(and he did also).
This whole attack by Obama is just simply stupid on his part. As a senior I object to this a**hat who thinks he is a Presidential candidate and will be glad when we vote his sorry butt out in Nov.
