McCain Gets Grilled on ‘The View’ Over Palin
Fox News ^

If John McCain was hoping to cruise through his fifth appearance on “The View,” he was in for a surprise Friday.

Within seconds of walking on the set, the Republican presidential nominee was grilled by the co-hosts of the ABC morning show over his choice of Sarah Palin as running mate and his claims that together they will reform Washington.

“I don’t see the old John McCain who used to buck the system as much, I understand why. You want to get elected,” said co-host Joy Behar.

Whoopi to McCain: “Should I worry about being a slave?”

You kidding me? Whoever suggested McCain to go on The View should get a raise. That’s gold. A couple of more lines like that and Obama can’t use the race card.

Johnny came off beautifully. He should put the show on his website.

There’s nothing more ugly than a filthy rich Limosine Liberal like Baba Walters trying to stir up class envy!

I completely agree with you on all points... It honestly wasn’t as BAD as I expected, but their conduct certainly wasn’t GOOD by any stretch of the imagination!

I can’t believe the questions Whoopi asked, and the assertion that a “strict interpretation of the Constitution” meant that she would go back to being a SLAVE! I certainly wish McCain had replied, well it was the Republicans who worked to get the Civil Rights Amendment passed in the first place, not the Democrats, so you and I are on the same page with that issue! (or something to that effect).

And before that when she asserted that Sarah Palin didn’t believe in the separation of church and state — I’d like those ladies to give just ONE example of when Ms. Palin has EVER tried to change the laws to fit her personal religious beliefs... The only thing I can think of is that they BELIEVE (or are feigning belief) of the libelous charges against Palin that have been leveled (that she wanted to ban books, that she demanded the teaching of creationism in schools, etc... etc...).

I’ll repeat here something I said in response to an article at Salon.com the other day — if she was intent on doing these things how could she POSSIBLY have an 80%+ approval rating in Alaska — surely there are liberals, and feminists living there. If THEY aren’t worried about these things, then WHY is this even an issue?!? She’s running for VICE PRESIDENT - not DICTATOR! UGH... So frustrating.

Regardless, I thought McCain handled himself VERY well, and didn’t let himself get worked up over their ridiculous statements, assumptions, and loaded questions. If anything I think Whoopi, Joy, and even Barbara came off as the ones who looked bad. (Which reminds me of one other point — I loved how he immediately corrected Joy about the ads which she said were lies... He clearly stated they are NOT lies, and went on to try to say that this was in contrast to the ads Obama is running...).

I think it was good of John to go on this show... I think pretty much everyone in the country realizes that this show is extremely liberally biased, and to go on the show, to not be intimidated by what they might ask or say really exemplifies the kind of person, and the kind of leader he would be. A much needed improvement over the kowtowing to the media, and liberal critics that we have seen FAR too much over the last 8 years, IMHO.

The question is, how low will the Democrats go to keep control of Congress. Right now they’re just sending out the attack dogs on McCain and Palin.

Unlike Michelle Obama which came on the show and gave a laundry list of what topics NOT to discuss.

I don’t watch ‘’The View’’. Except for Elizabeth I can’t stomach those women. Has Obama ever been on the View? Was he treated like garbage?!

I did not know that — very interesting. Kind of ironic given Barbara’s parting shot at Palin — tell her we asked easy questions... It’s so sad because it seems that Ms. Walters has completely forgotten the journalistic skills that got her where she is today — once she became a “celebrity” in her own right... I guess ego does that to people, doesn’t it?

Barbara Walters looked and acted like an old, bitter crone.

Ms. Walters knows EXACTLY what she is doing and is trying her best to help her guy Obama elected...period. She doesn't care, like Oprah, that the viewing audience which got them where they are today though does care. She rides the fence carefully to not overdo it but she is snide, disrespectful and it is good for America to see this and see how well McCain handled himself. He is a gem and we are lucky to have him and Palin representative of our party. I cannot imagine how anyone from the Dem party can say.....yessirre....I love my radical, white hating man Obama.....oh yeah....what an idiot he shouldn't even be on the same stage as McCain but then again...I look forward to the debates when he is!!

EXACTLY!

Can you imagine Obama going on a show where..

Sean Hannity, Rush, Levin and.. ok throw in the token liberal Alan Colmes were grilling him?

Obama would come out looking like a fool.

I would pay money to see that grilling. Good Money.

I agreed with you until I saw the interview, but he did so well and they looked like such idiots that I think it came off to his advantage.

Finally got to watch the whole interview. I think that Sen. Mac and Cindy did a wonderful job. I’m very proud of both of them. It’s a good thing for any conservative who is articulate to be able to express conservative views for the liberal audience. Otherwise they never hear it because they would die before turning their TV to FOX.
