In the second interview with Charlie Gibson, focusing on energy and "climate change", Governor Palin is great on ANWR. Indicating her differences with McCain. Thanks Governor.
However, she is wavering on the "global warming" issue, however not totally with McCain yet. Why can't she:
1) Indicate that the climate is always naturally either warming or cooling, regardless of man's activity. And since 1998, the temperature is on a downward trend! Even the die-hards have stopped calling it Global Warming, and now refer to it as "climate change", faced with the evidence.
2) Assuming global warming is occurring, is CO2 the primary cause to the effect? I've seen charts that indicate a lagging trend. Also, water vapor is the most prevelent "greenhouse gas", by far.
3) Assuming CO2 is the primary cause, is man the cause. If this is true, why do tests indicate that CO2 levels rise and fall, prior to the advent of nasty "industry"?
4) Is "global warming/climate change" "bad"? I'm not convinced that we have been faced with more, and greater severity of hurricanes in the recent past, than historically. It's amazing how anything that appears to be a negative as far as humans is concerned is blamed on Global Warming. I just don't beleive that is the case. Artic ice melting away. No, its not. Polar Bears imperiled/endangered, no they are not (Palin has filed a suit against the US Government on the EPA action on Polar Bears).
5) If it is bad, could we do anything about it, even if we wanted to. Any proposed solution appears to have drawbacks, either from an environmental standpoint (those funny looking light bulbs), an economic standpoint (cap and trade, an economic disaster, which will just make the government more powerful, and our economy much weaker), or both (Ethanol!).
My conclusion is the pollution is a significant "local" issue, that must be attended to, however I have not drank the "global warming/climate change" "kool aid" yet?
Well then good for her! If McCain is willing to accept this kind of thing then he is even more of a man than I had supposed. An ordinary egomaniac politician wouldn’t stand for such a thing from a subordinate running mate. Joe Lieberman shifting a number of principles to accomodate Gore back in 2000 comes to mind as an example.
Well, I’ve gotten pretty jaded by now. I’m old enough to remember when the Dems controlled everything, and it seemed as if the Republicans would never come into power. Imagine how happy I was when it finally happened!
You know the rest... nothing changed. Yes, Reagan did some good things, but he also let the Dems slip a few over on him. Then came the so-called Republican revolution which turned out to be only a change in whose pals got the goodies.
I think it’s a mistake to put trust in politicians. They do not have the solutions to our problems. In fact they make things worse. That goes for the ones who claim to be conservative. Granted, they are not as flagrantly bad as the libs, but people need to look closer to home to find their heroes. Politicians have feet of clay.
Dear Pining4TX,
Oh, I know that no government of man is ever going to be perfect, but in looking at the phony that is Barack Obama - I fear for this country if that bunch takes over lock, stock and barrel. Just looking at the deadlocked liberal swamp that Congress has become in the past two years is enough to depress anybody. Gov. Palin, from her record, and if she has enough intestinal fortitude to not get mesmerized by the corrupt dollar signs in Washington, gives me more hope for things to change in that pork addicted atmosphere than I’ve had in a long time. I am amazed and give the credit to Almighty God for us having narrowly escaped Hillary Clinton as President this time around; and hope Obama keeps sliding downhill. Oh, and don’t forget how much of a bullet we dodged with the narcissistic, selfish John Edwards! No, I do have faith, and hope that the Lord sees the affairs of man and is not impartial about the hope of cleaning out the corruption that Washington has become. Too much blood of good people has been shed for this country; people who came from decent, honest ancestors who tried to do right for God to turn a blind eye to cynical liars, cheats and thieves using us and our hard-earned money wastefully. - The corrupt, immoral Bill Clinton meant to disrespect us, use our Oval Office in a disrespectful way to us and all the people who gave their lives FOR that office and country it symbolizes - and he fully intended NOT to be caught and walk into the sunset with a 25 year “Clinton Dynasty” and a ruined, shamed, socialist country. - No, God is not impartial in the affairs of man or of the king.
McCain sucks on this issue. Palin has to go along with him.
Obama is even worse. How does that grab ya?

“In truth, there are reputable scientists on both sides of the global warming question.”
This is true, yet there is not a fair debate on the topic because it’s become a politically correct issue closely tied to employment, reputation, and research funding.
I believe the premise of CO2 and activities of man creating the small amount of warming we experienced is fatally flawed. This small amount of warming no longer exists.
Lest we forget, this whole theory was predicated on a continual rise of temperatures brought about by man (in the form of CO2). We have not seen any temperature gain in recent years.
Your observations are well made. I completely concur.
