I support computers for a living and know more about them than 99% of people.

Flat out, most people know less about computers than they do about a car. How many times have you met someone that drives a car, but doesn’t know how to put air in the tires? That describes the TYPICAL computer user. They know just enough to perform the functions they need to, but never learn anything beyond that.

Surfing the internet and sending e-mails is as deep as most people get.

Exactly. They know how to turn the thing on but barely know how to open the trunk, ask why would you ever change the oil, and are afraid to even open the glove box.
