The people, according to Alinsky, "must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and chance the future" of change, change, change.

I have seen this technique referred to as "miserification." The left tries to convince people that they're miserable. In some places, it goes even further and makes the situation worse - in Latin America, the leftists frequently attack local community aid or education programs. The same thing was true when the Communists attempted to take over Spain: they killed priests and religious for being Christians, but focused first on those who ran programs or schools that worked with the poor.

Right now, we have a press that does the work of "community organizers," working overtime to create an environment of negativity and despair and to convince Americans that the end of the world has come and only the great Obama-Oz can save them.
