PRINCETON, NJ -- A potential shift in fortunes for the Republicans in Congress is seen in the latest USA Today/Gallup survey, with the Democrats now leading the Republicans by just 3 percentage points, 48% to 45%, in voters' "generic ballot" preferences for Congress. This is down from consistent double-digit Democratic leads seen on this measure over the past year.

Gas prices is the GOP trump card!
I don’t understand how the democrats could maintain any kind of lead when a landslide majority of Americans are unhappy with congress.
But do they have the NADS to press the fight???
I think it’s Palin power
Palin getting base out
Drill baby Drill, Ike will cause a shortage of gas.
Have pitchfork, will travel.
After watching the media’s behavior since Palin was nominated don’t you think they have a bias which effects these numbers. In 1994 when the Republicans took Congress they trailed the Rats by a few points or only led by 1 or 2 at the most in these type of polls. And we all remember how the election went.
Price of gas and Palin are the factors.
There’s a lot of Fear and Loathing going on in Democrat circles... Buyers remorse has set in and they’re running away from their nominee.
Supposedly the newbie Democrats who won two years ago in Republican leaning districts are going to praise McCain/Palin and keep Obama and his poorly run campaign away from their districts in an attempt to hold their seats
Obama’s 57 state strategy isn’t working out like they thought it would. LOL
bttt
Excellant point. One factor is missing tho. The Senate has just a handfull of Republican conservatives. The House fairs a bit better but not much to brag about.
Among likely voters the Republicans are ahead %50 to %45. Wow!!!
Taking back the house would be equivalent to defeating the Nazis at the Battle of Bulge.
The silver lining here is that even if Republicans are a reasonable threat in Congress to an Obama presidency, it’ll avoid the doomsday scenario. Namely, a Democratic congress with heavy majorities, and a President with no plans other than ‘throw money at it’ and ‘raise taxes again so we can throw more money at it’.
Off shore drilling in Florida and California will lesson the impact of a hurricane that hits Texas.
Drill in ANWR and you spread the locations that our crude oil supply.
Natural disasters are going to happen, how selfish of Florida and California not to help with our national energy supply.
We need to drill for oil, and we also need reserve capacity for refineries. There are already reports of service stations in parts of the country OTHER THAN TEXAS AND LOUISIANA running out of gasoline because of Hurricane Ike.
We need to try to get people to spread the word that Democratic Congressmen and liberal Republicans are making people do without gasoline whenever a hurricane pops up in the Gulf (we need more refinery capaciy, and not along the Gulf Coast states of Texas/Louisiana/Mississippi.
We also need to be drilling for oil in ANWR (Alaska), revoke the moratorium on drilling for oil off the California coast (the city of Long Beach, CA has gotten a reprieve and is using revenue for drilling in the harbor to pump up the city).
We need drilling on the East Coast (Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida Gulf Coast)...
Time to shake up our Congress-critters and throw out a number of Rats (Democrats) out of Congress!!!
