Has Barack Obama underestimated John McCain?
His advisers would certainly say no, that they always assumed the presidential race would be close and hard fought. But it's not too much to believe that at Obama's Chicago headquarters and on his campaign plane, the team did not fully appreciate the Republican position.

Misunderestimate??
Right now, the ONE is completely out of his league. And doesn’t know it.
Hahaha...what is that?;)
It’s a “Bushism”.
"What isn't possible now is to ignore or underestimate the caliber of the opposition. McCain's competitive drive is every bit as strong as Obama's but displays itself in different ways. McCain's is a combination of inner toughness and visceral derring-do. Palin has reinforced those instincts and his campaign is doing everything it can to keep the momentum going.
"Obama has been at this now for 19 hard months. At times his focus has drifted but he has proven himself equal to all the challenges. McCain's challenge may prove no more difficult in the end than Clinton's. But right now it is more than Obama may have expected. Now it is his turn and the question is, is he ready?"
If you “misunderestimate” someone, that means you are overestimating him.
Don’t be surprised if Biden finds some lame excuse to resign from the VP slate, and the Hildabeast steps forward to fill the “void”!
What I believe has happened here is that Obama and his acolytes knew, KNEW that the electorate is so sick of Bush and the GOP and so hungry for “change” that they would walk into the White House without having to break a sweat. They knew they could take out Hillary! because of the weird Primary rules that the dimrats put in place and because they could hamstring her by playing identity politics to the hilt and rendering Obama virtually invulnerable to attack.
What they didn’t count on was McCain who is proving to be smarter, more pugnacious and much quicker to both react and attack (the old fighter pilot learned his lessons well). The Palin pick was sheer brilliance and it is looking better every day. The jabs at Obama’s “star” status and his lack of experience were already bringing his numbers down. The Palin pick has really rocked him and, in my opinion, will prove to be the move that finished him off. Much depends on Palin in the short term and I think she will do just fine. And McCain is proving that he has the stuff to not just convince people to vote against Obama but to convince them to vote FOR McCain.
I love it!
The only way that Hitlery is going to join this ticket is if SHE gets to sit on the top seat in that Greek temple... and EVERYONE knows it.
Can’t happen - no way - no how.
I can think of a lot of Republican Presidental candidates and political analysts who underestimated McCain. Like about every one of them. In October of last year, McCain was the only person who thought he had a chance.
Oh, I think he’s recently gotten a few clues but I’m not sure he can figure out the puzzle yet.
This woman is either going to charm Putin or scare him. Either way he will respect her more than he will Obama.
"The only thing that you can assume about a broken down old man--is that he is a survivor."
underestimate: to make an estimate lower than that which would be correct.
misunderestimate: your clueless dude.
