Michigan has cast its votes for the Democratic presidential candidate in four straight elections, and Barack Obama is trying to extend that streak. He currently holds a five point advantage--51% to 46%--over John McCain in this important battleground state.

Those figures are little changed from a month ago when Obama held a 49% to 45% lead (with leaners). Nationally, the race between Obama and McCain remains close

Yes, I hear Speaker Polosi just promised to back loans to the major American Automakers in Detroit. I can see where they’d feel grateful.

I’m not willing to disregard Rasmussen, but let’s face it: if even one poll (like Insider Advantage) has McCain ahead, then it is very bad news for Obama. Because Michigan shouldn’t even be close—it has been a Dem “given”.

Told you so. MI is out of play. Why won't people here get that? So is WI, and likely so is PA.

We need to focus on CO, NH, NM, OH, and VA. That's the old election.

I think we’ve lost Michigan.

We need to focus on CO, NH and NV now...

Five points is not all that bad, but I do think MI is not worth worry about. McCAin needs to focus on CO, VA, OH, and even PA for padding.

"I’d go with Rasmussen."

Doesn't Rasmussen poll registered voters? RealClearPolitics polled likely voters. I've always thought that "likely voter" polls were more accurate.

I think the dynamics of this election are such that it is a particularly difficult one for pollsters to model. That may be why there seems to be so much conflicting data. It’s going to be close, but I’m optimistic.
