Tax breaks to move American jobs overseas?

Posted on 09/10/2008 6:43:15 AM PDT by reaganator

I saw an Obama campaign ad claiming that President Bush had given tax breaks to American companies which encourage them to move overseas. The ad went on to claim that Senator McCain would continue this, "more of the same", called it "George Bush Economics".

Some questions immediately come to mind:

How does government at any level create "tax breaks" to encourage companies to move overseas?

Could it be that the nation(s) these companies are relocating their operations to have lower tax obligations on businesses?

At the current employment rate of 94%-95% are we really massively losing American jobs.

95% employment rate? Ever read about the state of affairs in Michigan?

The rate I stated is national rate. That means there are states doing better than Michigan, what state is not?

I know in NY State, jobs are leaving, to Texas, North Carolina, and YES - overseas.

WHY? Because we have the highest property taxes in the country and one of the highest average sales taxes to support a huge government and welfare sector. Public sector unions have veto power over all Gov’t spending decisions, and nothing gets built without a lengthy court fight first. Schools are controlled by rapid teachers unions, and although we spend the most in the country per student, the state can only graduate just over 50% of the high school students in 4 years. We have a Democratic governor, a Democratic assembly (have had for decades) and the neutered RINO’s that remain in the State Senate will likely become a minority soon also.

Now tell me - who thinks Obama will keep jobs from going overseas?

The national employment rate may be lower now. There was an election year ploy executed earler this year. It was the extension of unemployment benefits from 26 weeks to 39 weeks. This was done to cause the unemployment rate to rise, it always works, and has.

But Obama’s ad claims that President Bush is responsible for enabling tax breaks to go to companies that move their jobs overseas.

Corporations in the US pay a 35% tax rate. Why not move your business off shore and pay a 15 - 20 % tax rate.

Wouldn't you move your operation?

The democrat tax policies have caused businesses to move off shore because of their greed for tax revenues.
The smartest thing John McCain has done is set a policy goal to reduce the corporate tax to 25%.
That will reverse the flow of businesses to off shore and give businesses more capital for growth.
If the corporate tax rate is reduced I believe we will see another growth period in this country similar to the one we was under Reagan.

"95% employment rate? Ever read about the state of affairs in Michigan?"

Michigan is a special case; Self inflicted wound. Auto industry that can't compete, because of caving in to unions for too many years, low quality product, and wrong products. Plus a state and local government that has never seen a tax it didn't fall in love with.

Yep, but many are being replaced by low pay service jobs. Benefits and pay rates are stagnate or dropped due to the lack of competing for workers. Kids are no longer being trained for many skills needed in the manufacturing sectors creating a shortage in some areas. Many are finding creative ways to live on the public dole not seen in unemployment figures.

Why inject race into this discussion? But you did. How many young blacks, AND WHITES, don’t work and just want to be gangstas, they often live off their BABY MAMAS welfare handouts? Save your pity for the worthy.

And I'd hire servants for around the house if it were legal and it only cost me a couple bucks a day.

Not to mention Michigan increasing the minimum wage a couple of years ago (which has an incremental benefit to unions that tie their wage increases to the min.wage). Unemployment increases for unskilled workers (including high school kids who tried to get summer jobs) is the unintended consequence. Michigan - the most corrupt state I have ever lived in - you can’t make up the stuff that goes on here.

Because Obama has been supporting illegal aliens who are the ones displacing low skilled American workers and depressing wages. The cause of rising unemployment has to do with non-Americans taking American jobs, not tax breaks forcing American companies to go overseas. Blacks, because of the their lack of education, are disproportionately affected by immigration. A 10.7% unemployment rate borders on Depression rather than recession yet nary a peep from Obama and the Black Caucus on the damaging effects of immigration on the black communtity.

Blacks have a lack of education? Why so? The city with the highest per student cost is predominantly black Washington, D. C.

It this day and age in America if someone is not suffeciently educated, it is his own fault!

I thought forcibly racially intergrating government schools was going to elimiante the disparity in the quality of education. What happened?

I still don’t. There are legal American who would work as house servants for other Americans if the federal government were not paying them to be, and stay poor.

Poor schools, poverty, an an out of wedlock birth rate of 68% combine to create the social pathology of failure in this country. Hispanics have an out of wedlock birthrate of 50% and a 50% school drop out rate. They also have an unemployment rate of 8%.

Today, half of the children under 5 are minorties. By 2023, half of the children under 18 will be minorities.

Regardless of whose fault it is, we are going to have to deal with it as a nation. By 2042, half of the country will be minorities. We are creating a permanent underclass comprised primarily of Hispanics and blacks who will be a source of friction and discord and a drain on our social welfare systems. If we are going to survive and continue to succeed as a nation, we need to address these problems. Demography is destiny.
