My father was a Democrat. He worked through the depression(yes, there was work),he went to Harvard,(hauled radiators up and down the dorm stairs for three months,he was a pipe fitter and he hated those snot nosed rich bastids with a passion)he went to war in the South Pacific, came home and started a family.Normal guy...he died in 1984,and I still miss him ...my father would not recognize the modern Democratic Party, let alone vote for any of them. the Democratic Party today is built on the rotting foundation of the Vietnam War protest movement and the Gay Rights Movement, the "Wymyns" movement, and every other "movement" of the so called "oppressed".I do not think that Harry Truman or JFK could even poll 5% in a Democratic Primary today.I. like Zell Miller was "born" a Democrat, but I didn't leave the party, it left me.
The good things about some of the Democrat leadership in years past...Harry Truman’s drive to defeat our enemies and stand with our friends...Jack Kennedy’s desire to cut taxes...Scoop Jackson’s understanding of the need for a strong defense....those are completely driven out of the Democrat party today.
They’re pretty much power hungry socialists now. Nancy Pelosi is Hugo Chavez in a dress.
The folks over at http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=28812&page=4 are having a fit over the pig comment. Notice the last line in this post from someone called ssmith:
I don’t even know what to say anymore..
I called all my girlfriends to see if they got the same reaction as me.. and yep! they sure did..
BO is one arrogant chauvinistic sexist SOB!
He seems to hate women.. he hated hillary, gave her the finger....sexist jokes.. of course, no one noticed.. now he has moved on to Palin
I say this as a clinton dem, now an indy.. I HOPE the GOP RIP HIM APART!
this is 2008, for a presidential candidate to call a female VP a “pig”, why not go further.. call her a “******* wh*re”, “cu*t”, he did the same thing to hillary.
I feel dirty for even ever calling myself a democrat.. that is now a filthy word to me...
I totally understand...my dad got his head beat in trying to create a union, and at the end of his life had nothing but disdain for the unions and the thugs that had taken them over. My mom on the other hand, was a Socialist til the day she died.
He was approached once about running for the House. After thinking about it overnight he replied that he was not a crook and would not consider running.
Through the Vietnam War his support of the Democratic party lessened and after the Carter fiasco he left the Democrats never to return.
If he was alive and able I believe that seeing what the Democrats have lowered themselves to; he would drive Republicans and Conservatives to the polls. I do miss the many discussions about history and politics that we had.
I know what you are talkin’ about!
My mother left my father when I was 18 months old because he beat her up to prove his manhood!
I was raised by my mother who did the best she could.
When I grew old enough to start meeting young females, I met my father-in-law....Staunch union Dem, WWII vet, Hard working family man, and extremely pro gun.
To this day, my wife and I wonder how he would feel knowing what the Democrat Party has turned into!
We know the answer, but are really glad that he passed away in time to miss all of this....
There are still too many brand loyal knee jerk “ My family has always been democrats” dopes around .Drives ya goofy. They are against all the PC etc grappolla but vote for the party that caused it
Yup. My Dad was an FDR Democrat. He also fought in the Pacific in WW2. He passed in 2003, so he lived to see Clinton disgrace himself.
Yes, she was. However, much to her credit she raised 3 productive members of society. Her political beliefs may have been socialistic in nature, but she expected her children to make their own way. She succeeded, because you all do and her grandchildren are doing the same, well expect for the youngest one :)
I’ve asked the same question. Democrats used to be for the working class, but it has been hijacked by liberalism. Plain and simple.
They have taken control of the education budgets and the schools through the teachers unions and turned our public schools into indoctrination centers.
Young people today graduate knowing very little American history and have their minds stuffed full of liberal claptrap.
If sensible people do not somehow regain control of the schools the ultra-left radicals will eventually win the war through sheer numbers.
WOW - what an awesome post.
I do believe my FIL and your FIL would both have the same reaction.
I envy you having known you FIL, I never got to meet coolbreeze’s dad. I really wish I had.
My parents, grandparents, and great grandparents were ALL Democrats. The Democrat Party has gone waaaaaaay over to the Dark Side! My children are ALL Republicans—I am VERY proud to say!
REAL people terrify them...the same way the penthouse environmentalists will pontificate on hunting and wildlife, when the only animals they’re not afraid of are pigeons, rats and poodles.
LOL, yeah, that about sums it up.
My father was also a WWII vet, and he died the same year yours did. He, too, was a Dem. I remember him saying, “The Democrats are for the working man.” I really, really doubt he’d vote Dem today, though.
War has a way of focusing people's priorities. If another war comes, the idiocy of homosexuals and feminists and the Grievance Industry, etc, will vanish quickly.
It was pointed out that McCarthy lost parlt because his supporters did so much to upset the voting public. What wasn’t mentioned was that those, mostly young, supporters are now the party elite.
Sarah Palin won’t win over any of the committed feminists for whom abortion is everything. However, many of Hillary Clinton’s supporters this time were mostly non-political women who supported Clinton for other reasons, like workplace discrimination, for example. And those voters could go to McCain now.
I respectfully disagree with you. My duaghter is in 5th grade and attends public school. There is not teacher’s union in Virginia and she knows far more about VA and American history than I did about NY and American history when I was in school.
Her father is a history buff and a fanatic when it comes to historical facts, if there was a problem with the history she is being taught he would be the first one screaming foul. And I would be back to bending the superintendent’s ear on the phone and testifying at a school board meeting. I’ve done it before and am not afraid to do it again.
