Obama: McCain-Palin change mantra is 'lipstick on a pig'

LEBANON, Virginia (AFP) — Democrat Barack Obama late Tuesday launched his most scathing attack yet on his Republican White House rivals' reformist credentials, likening their approach to putting "lipstick on a pig."

"We've been talking about change when we were up in the polls and when we were down in the polls," Obama told a rally here as surveys suggested John McCain and Sarah Palin have overhauled his lead for the November 4 election.

"The other side, suddenly, they're saying 'we're for change too.' Now think about it, these are the same folks that have been in charge for the last eight years," the Illinois senator said to a crowd of 2,400 people.

"You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig. You can wrap up an old fish in a piece of paper and call it change. It's still going to stink after eight years. We've had enough," he exclaimed to a standing ovation.

In accepting the party's vice presidential nomination, Alaska Governor Palin joked at the Republican convention last week that the only difference between a hockey mom like herself and a pitbull was "lipstick."

True to the pitbull tag, Palin has been savaging Obama daily on the campaign trail as McCain presents their Republican ticket as true change that will shake up Washington, salvage the economy and protect the nation from foreign threats.

While Obama rallied voters in Lebanon, Virginia, the Republicans earlier were in Lebanon, Ohio, where Palin repeated her widely queried claim that she had said "thanks, but no thanks" to a notorious "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska.

Both I and the PUMAs think Obama said this as a double hit.

Pig - reference to Palin.

‘Old fish wrapped in paper called change” - that was a reference to McCain.

Dear God in heaven, how does he think he can get away with that? Does he really think we won’t think there’s a link? Wow, just wow

Come on, guys! This, and the "My Muslim Faith" slip are not going to get any real traction. We got to be above it.

” The context of the video is different.”

Absolutely.
Obama carefully crafts his words.
This was intentional and pointed by Obama.
Perhaps an act of self sabotage.
I don’t think Obama ever really wanted to be president, the thought of being president , with it’s accolades and perks ,was more attractive.
He’s lazy-the hard work is a turn off.
I think he’s done.

How does anyone NOT see this as a reference to Palin and McCain?? Lipstick, pitbull. "Old" Fish, McCain. And it wasn't a standing ovation. It was whooping and jeering at his cracks against them.

Actually if you listen to it, he's talking about the McCain campaign, not Sarah. He's using her words but he's not directly calling her a pig or implying it, just twisting her words for a laugh.

Too bad, I was hoping he was, it'd sink him for sure but they can easily spin out of this one.

It definitely was a smear on Palin. How many crowds would whoop and holler at this old joke. The children have stepped in it again.

We got to be above it.

Why? I listened to it and yes, the 'lipstick' line is taken out of context, but if he keeps saying things like this I say run with it. The only thing you get from taking the high road is a nose bleed and I don't care how we win it as long as Obama loses. I can live with the shame of dirty politics if need be. =)

I don't want to have to explain to my grandkids someday that we let this jerk, and his ilk, destroy this country because we "were above it".

I think we have it. This election is now McCain/Palin’s to lose.

Dems will continue to hit below the belt, then more & more regular folk will swing over to the right side.

Note to budding political cartoonists:

Draw a picture of Obama grimacing with a giant lipstick protruding from his backside.

Show Biden saying “I think you are supposed to use it on the other end.”

The media has had 18 months to ask Obama tough questions. All they’ve thrown at him is their bras and their panties.

Quit picking on Olberman.

Even if we were to give Obama the benefit of the doubt and it was an innocent comment, it shows extremely poor judgment (again) by Obama as most people will instantly link it to Palin.

Either Obama is dumb or dumber.

But the media will give him a free pass.

Their waiting for their Palin “Potatoe” moment and will run it at the top of the hour, 24/7

It’s going to get ugly. The MSM is going to willfully help Obama any way they can.

Right now, there are literally hundreds of “journalists” in Alaska, looking for dirt on Palin.

Do you think when they come back they’re going to talk about how almost everyone in Alaska thinks Palin is the greatest thing ever?

No. They are going to ignore the 1,000 positive stories and blow out of proportion the story by one disgruntled person.

Meanwhile, Obama gets a free pass on Rezko, Ayers, Pflegler, Wright.

No one in the media is asking if Obama has the experience, or if he was thoroughly vetted.

The MSM has the power to elect Obama. They ran Bush’s approval ratings into the ground, and they will try to do the same to Palin.

The media and Obama have nothing to lose. They know that they can’t beat the combination of McCain and Palin.

They’ve already attacked Trig Palin. Nothing is beneath them.

Howard Dean screamed, Kerry windsurfed, Nixon made a remark about people who weren’t important, Obama said lipstick on a pig. You recognized what I recognized as a sixteen year old when Nixon made his remark, I felt it in my belly rather than thinking about it, I knew instantly that he had made a grave error.
