Hello friends!
Dr. Sauerberg spent a busy week in Minnesota for the Republican National Convention, and enjoyed meeting so many others who want to see Senator Dick Durbin removed from the U.S. Senate!
This Friday, Sept. 12, U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D., (R-OK), will join Dr. Sauerberg for a fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harry Caray's in Rosemont. Those interested in attending should contact Teresa Belmonte via e-mail at tbelmonte@sauerberg2008.com by Thursday, Sept. 11. Sen. Coburn has been one of the strongest voices in Congress on eliminating wasteful spending and protecting the sanctity of all human life. As a physician, Sen. Coburn exemplifies the role of the citizen legislator by flying home on the weekends to Oklahoma to deliver babies for free.
Remember, Republicans only need two seats to recapture the majority in the U.S. Senate, and we need your help to secure one of those for Dr. Sauerberg!
In order to make yard sign distribution a smoother process, these are available at your county Republican headquarters. View contact information for county chairmen here.
Thank you again for your continued support, and have a great week!

On Monday, he followed breakfast by joining the Republican National Lawyers Association for a reception at the Minneapolis City Hall. On Tuesday, Dr. Sauerberg attended the Latino Leaders Luncheon, where he met Presidential candidate John McCain's Naval Academy roommate Frank Gamboa, and then stopped in to visit with veterans at an event hosted by Jon Voight. On Wednesday, he attended an event hosted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, followed by a trip into the Wabasha Street Caves for an event called "Late Night Speakeasy for Hollywood Republicans and Other Misfits."

After attending a wind power press conference,
Dr. Sauerberg proves alternative energy is cool.

It looks like Dr. Steve is going to have a bit of money to attack Durbin with after all. Tom Coburn is a conservative icon and I certainly trust his judgment on Sauerberg. It is good to see conservatives working together. Win or lose you certainly can't win without money to buy ammunition. Sauerberg has certainly matured as a candidate hopefully the GOP in Illinois has matured as well.

I wish Mitt had run against Kerry. I never supported him for President but I think he’d make a great Senator.

Both Slick Willard and Huckster couldn’t lower their egos enough to run for Senator. In Arkansas, the Republicans will have NO candidates for federal office this year except for the lone incumbent in 1 House race, the one we’ve held 42 years.

Coburn's an arch-conservative but no doubt some big wigs in the GOP establishment (the same ones who fought tooth and nail against Coburn's Senate nomination) talked him into helping a "fellow Republican doctor" out. Coburn probably knows nothing about Sauerfraud's ideology. Besides, whatever table scraps Sauerfraud gets from this event, it won't be enough to make his campaign viable anyway. Sauerfraud will still have to pay out of his own pocket for his "I'm not Dick Durbin" TV ads.
Could be worst. At least he's not helping hard-core pro-Obama socialists win Republican primaries like this certain Republican Senator from Tennessee did a few times. ;-)

Interesting irony coming from Dr. Sauerberg, who's been one of the weakest voices of any Republican Senate this year in protecting the sanctity of all human life. He said waaaaaay back in Oct. 2007 that he favors abortions in "some circumstances" and he STILL refuses to tell Illinois voters under what circumstances that would be. You'd think a career medical doctor would have some idea. I guess.

I wasn’t trying to poke you in the eye with it. Coburn was being pragmatic like Fred (who remember, was already out of the Senate, having nothing to gain) seeing that the Senate was better in GOP hands, even with flakes. But, damn, Missing Linc was a big f’ing flake.

Maelstorm, you said, “It is good to see conservatives working together.” Sauerberg isn’t conservative. He’s pro-choice, pro-gun control, and pro-Hillarycare.
To: fieldmarshaldj
Couple of differences here. Coburn doesn't serve with Sauerberg in office and probably has little-to-no knowledge of what Sauerberg actually stands for. He's simply appearing at a fundraiser for a guy who just seems to be a nice, conservative family doctor running to unseat a hard-left Democrat (perhaps Sauerberg's campaign staff even lied to Coburn and claimed Sauerberg is pro-life and pro-gun, as that is their tactic in getting freepers to open up their wallets). Coburn putting a few extra bucks in Sauerberg's campaign is not going to save his pathetic 30 point defincit in the polls.
Fred DID serve with "The Missing Linc", as you can him, and was fully aware that Chafee is a screwy left-wing socialist with an "R" next to his name. Fred didn't help Chafee in the general election (to win over an equally socialist Dem) so we'd have an additional "R" in the Senate, he helped him in the PRIMARY to beat an actual Republican. (as far as I know, Coburn didn't come to Illinois and campaign for Sauerfraud back in Feb. to prevent Mike Psak from winning the nomination). So now how you spin in, your "principled, pragmatic, true conservative" Fred worked against advancing conservatism in the U.S. Senate.
Coburn is being "pragmatic" in helping a center-left "R" win over a far-left "D". Fred was simply selling conservativism down the river to help a far-left "R" win over a center-right "R".
As much as you hate Mike Huckabee, he didn't show up in Illinois for George Ryan fundraisers and him help get nominated in the PRIMARY over Chad Koppie, did he?
I just find it ironic how you constantly rant and rave that (insert X names here) disagree with you on ONE issue, therefore they are evil socialists, but when Fred endorses an ACUTAL socialist who disagrees with him 90% of the time -- and helps him WIN over a fellow conservative, well that's just fine with you.
I can understand the Washington status quo working to elect liberal "R's" in the general election (even if they're to the left of their Dem opponents) because they want to be "pragmatic" and ensure the GOP has enough seats to have the majority, but "true conservatives" working to get socialists nominated in the primary because they are "incumbents" is inexisiable, IMO, whether it's Fred, Rick Santorum, or Bush doing it.
IMO many of the "liberal asses" you constantly whine about in the Senate today can thank "true conservatives" for.

This is what Santorum SHOULD have said:
"I've worked well with both Senator Specter and Congressman Pat Toomey in projects to benefit the peoeple of Pennsyvania. Both of these gentleman are well qualified to serve as U.S. Senator. I cannot endorse one over the other. That is for the Republican voters of Pennsyvania to decide, but I am very pleased that either one would be a tough opponent for Joel Heffley. Whoever wins has my full support to prevent this seat from fall into Democratic hands"
This is what Fred Thompson SHOULD have said:
"It's not up to me as a Tennessee official to tell the Rhode Island Republicans who they should choose to represent them in the U.S. Senate. That's a decision they will have to make, based on what kind of values and principles they believe in as Republicans. I can tell you we cannot afford to have another liberal Democrat elected in Washington at this time. Doing so will affect all of nationwide."
Those statements would have made both of them principled, pragmatic Republicans, rather than part of the Washington status quo who sells conservatives down the river to get the RINO party establishment to invite them to more cocktail parties.
And if Coburn has shown up in Illinois to loudly rally for Sauerberg and urge Republicans to support him over Psak, that would have made Coburn a sell out too.

C’mon, Billy, are we gonna re-fight this crap again ? You know and I know Fred was wrong to go up and help out the Missing Linc AS A CONSERVATIVE. But the thinking was that if Chafee was renominated, he’d win the general again and hence help the Republicans keep a majority. Ultimately, you know and I know that if Chafee had been the 50th Republican, he’d have switched to the rodents before the Jan ‘07 Senate convened.
