Based on the first 20 or so comments on here it appears people don’t understand an expression when they see one.

Putting lipstick on a pig makes it still a pig is as old as I can remember.

You’re right...it is an old saying. Since Wednesday’s speech by Sarah, however, the word ‘lipstick’ has been very much associated with her. Have you ever heard Obama use that expression before today?

There are about 948 subsequent posts that will explain the outrage better for you. It should only take 3 or 4 hours to catch up :)

Please, of all the phrases he could have used , he decided that one? Even after Gov. Palin's quip about lipstick & hockey moms?

No, he tried to walk a tight rope, and fell on his ass.

I ,for one, am tired of excusing his "gaffes"!

We aren't stupid. Most of us know the old saying. It is YOU who doesn't understand the context in which it was used it what makes it so vile.

#####

No one is claiming that it is an original comment. Delivered 5 days after Sarah Palin gave her speech with her “lipstick!” punchline, it is a direct reference to Sarah Palin as a pig.

Well, I’m nearly 60 and I’ve always, ALWAYS, heard that expression as “You can’t hang earrings on a pig.” LIPSTICK never was part of the equation.

“Putting lipstick on a pig makes it still a pig is as old as I can remember.”

Would you say that to your wife when she puts lipstick on?
