In Face of Stiff Opposition, Dole Holds Her Ground, Adds to Modest Lead: In an election for United States Senator in North Carolina today, 09/09/08, 8 weeks till votes are counted, incumbent Republican US Senator Elizabeth Dole defeats Democratic State Senator Kay Hagan 48% to 40%, according to this latest SurveyUSA pre-election tracking poll conducted exclusively for WTVD-TV Raleigh. Libertarian Christopher Cole remains a factor.
Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released last month, Dole is up 2, Hagan is down 1, Cole is flat. At a time when Republicans added a woman to the top of the ticket, and in the month where the McCain-Palin ticket gained 8 points among NC women, Dole dropped 4 points among NC women, from 46% to 42%. Much of Dole's increase comes from men, from voters over age 50, and from voters who earn more than $50K/year.
Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 900 North Carolina adults 09/06/08 through 09/08/08. Of them, 783 were registered to vote; of them, 671 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 11/04/08 general election.
Would it be sexist to say that Palin may have apron strings instead of coat tails? :)
skirt tails!
This is good news. I would like to see Palin come to NC to campaign with Mayor Pat. Unfortunately I doubt she would come to Mecklenburg County. Palin could provide substantial uplift to both of them, as Mayor Pat has a bit of the Maverick in him and Perdue is as dumb as a box of rocks and as dirty as Gov Easely.
Thank goodness that Mike “tax hike” Easley in term limited!!!!
I’ll be voting the all-Scottish ticket: McCain and McCrory. Pat definitely has a shot at ending the Charlotte hex in statewide elections. Recent Charlotte Mayors Eddie Knox (D), Harvey Gantt (D), Sue Myrick (R), and Richard Vinroot (R) all tried Gubernatorial or U.S. Senate races (in the cases of Gantt and Vinroot, multiple attempts), and all failed.
And McCrory just destroyed Perdue in their final debate tonight!
Go Pat Go!!! I don’t think I can handle 4 more years of a Democrat Governor, particularly Bev Perdue. I think she’ll be worse than Mike Easley ever thought about being. She is nothing but a puppet of the teacher’s unions.
