Poland modernizes army
09.09.2008
Poland will spend some 60 billion zlotys, or over 24 billion US dollars, on the modernization of its army.
Defense minister Bogdan Klich said the money will be spent mainly on improving its defense capabilities. He stressed that contrary to popular views, Europe is not a stable continent yet and small border incidents may happen.
An important element of the Polish army reform will be resignation from conscripts and turning to professional soldiers. Minister Klich declared that in January 2010 only volunteers will serve in the Polish army.
I hope they buy lots of tanks, attack helicopters and anti-tank missiles. Some good MLRS units and a boatload of cluster bombs would do well to make Ivan think twice.
The Poles are among the minority of Europeans who still “get it” when it comes to national security. They are also among the minority of Europeans who I still feel would go to the wall with us when the time comes.
Poland has Georgia on its mind.
L
nuclear subs!
They are going from conscripts to a recruited army. The one they have now is quite professional I assure you. The only thing this will do is assure they won’t get very many college athletes, honors students, etc. among their male population.
Poland is tired of getting hell kicked out of it by bully russia to its east.
And what with russia getting pushy once again it is a good time to build their defenses that it makes it hurt for russia to invade.
They should keep their horses too... The most beautiful mounts outside of Texas.
Javelin anti-tank missiles. 5000, plus 1000 launchers.
That’ll give Ivan pause.
Is Javelin a shoulder fired system? Can a rider fire it
from the gallop controlling the mount with the knees
mongol-style?
That would be cool!
American missile defense.
I realize that but there were some efficent use made of
cavalry during that dustup, Hubal comes to mind.
