Sounds good to me. I'm for anti-terrorists weapons.

Woodward may or may not be FOS on this ... but Mr. Hadley's motive in acknowledging the program is a great tactic....

It causes uncertainty and distrust among the bad guys, and also tempts them to move around more, which makes them more vulnerable.

Let me guess. Woodward interviewed some of the dead to find this out... which is an improvement over when he interviewed the CIA ex-chief who was guarded in a hospital, and in a coma. Face it folks, Woodward is a little wimp who lucked out when “deep throat” revealed all to him. Remove a reliable source and this guy is just about as intellectual as Jimmy Carter.

And the surge was just a cover-up?? Bob sounds like he's being a little sensational here. I hope we do have a secret killing program that can now be deployed in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. But to claim it was primarily responsible for reducing violence seems a little fanciful.

Shut up, Woodstein. Retire. You would tactically disserve your country during war. Do you know the word for that?

The new secret weapon is a “Jihadist call,” something like a turkey call. (Remember Gary Cooper in Sgt. York?)

But with a new technology twist.

A special ops guy with a sniper rifle hides while his partner sets off the electronic call, which is that of an imam shouting, “One bit, two bits, three bits, a dollar. All for Osama ben Laden stand up and holler.”

Game over.

My guess is they rounded up all the JAG types and sent them packing. Then they told the troops to do what they were trained to do.

I’m confused. I thought the objective in war was to kill the enemy.

...sarcasm....

Bush is a bastard. He’s waging a war and killing the enemy. How dare he kill people whose only problem is that they want to turn the world into a ninth-century Islamic dystopia. No wonder it’s secret. The bastard.

... /sarcasm....

With a traitorously anti-military and anti-American media, I say we let our magnificent military conduct ALL future wars “in secret”.

I trust them infinitely more than talentless, journalist scum, like the hugely over-rated Bob Woodward.

Woodward is basically a Washington DC gossip columnist.

As to secretly killing terrorists - if people don’t want to send ‘em to Gitmo, then we have to do something with them....

let’s just hope Leahy is not let in on the secret. If he is it will be above the fold NY Times the next day.

Those "ghosts" that operate Barrett .50 cal sniper rifles and take out terrorists from a mile away don't necessarily advertise themselves.

The special-ops (black-ops?) guys don't wear those jackets with big yellow letters on them like some FBI or ATF raid to identify the good guys from the bad.

UAVs (armed and un-armed) don't fly low and loud! They fly high and silent...and effectively deadly.

Woodward should be on trial for treason. This, in my opinion does not fall under free speech. It's like the warning here on FR: "loose lips sink ships"

Former Lieutenant Bob Woodward USNR, aid to CNO Admiral Thomas H. Moorer in 1969, would of course have been familiar with the Phoenix program in a different counter-insurgency conflict. It’s predictable that he would assume the same tactical means would be employed in the present conflict.

Question is, so what?

The dramatic drop in violence in Iraq is due in large part to a secret program the U.S. military has used to kill terrorists...

The program...must remain secret for now or it would "get people killed," Woodward said Monday...

Impeccable logic from Mr. Woodward.
