US vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin's fashion sense is winning applause in an unexpected quarter - in Japan, where the maker of her rimless glasses is enjoying a sudden boost in business.
The Alaska Governor's designer specs have become a hot topic on the US campaign trail, with some speculating that the 44-year-old former beauty queen is trying to show her seriousness.
But whatever her reason, Masunaga Optical Manufacturing is pleased with the media interest.
The company makes Ms Palin's MP-704 glasses, designed out of titanium by Kazuo Kawasaki.
"Few politicians, especially women, go out with glasses. We're happy to see her wear the glasses,'' a company spokeswoman said.
"We have already seen a positive effect,'' she added, saying orders and inquiries from retailers and customers were increasing.
Masunaga Optical sells 6000 to 7000 frames of the MP-704 model globally a year, she said, while declining to say how many orders it received since Ms Palin was picked by Republican White House candidate John McCain.

well...he looks like Sarah Palin! So of course! hehe
vaudine
My husband looked at me when I walked downstairs and said "going for the Sarah Palin look, I see." LOL!
The glasses I’m wearing on my FR page have purple frames which is quite racy for me. LOL! I wear them all the time, even though I don’t have to because I work in front of a computer all day.
I’m so used to wearing glasses that seeing myself in my youtube videos without them is odd.
Having said that, I tried on some glasses in that Sarah Palin style a few years ago when I got my last pair and I didn’t like the way they looked on me. To each their own.
Is there a Michelle Obama mood ring or Joe Biden hairpiece to compete with these?
Cindy brings the beer (distributorship!) ....
And SHE too could be the answer to “How do you please a man?” questions.
It's notable that EVEN this writer somehow ASSUMES that Sarah got a “makeover” and “campaign packaging advice” (like Hillary ???? Obama?? Biden?) rather than “I am myself and I am confident in my OWN judgment and THIS IS WHO I AM”
Add Big Al to that list. Remember when he hired some feminist type to help him select his clothes and they went to the Khaki's and plaid look to make him seem more down to earth?
