Sauerberg Calls on Sen. Durbin to Denounce Sexist Remarks Against Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin Blogs such as Daily Kos have stooped to a new low by publishing these ridiculous commentaries regarding Sarah Palins newborn son and her teenage daughter. As someone well-connected with the Daily Kos staff, Sen. Durbin should be first in line to condemn this behavior. Steve Sauerberg, M.D.
(Minneapolis, Minn.) Republican nominee for U.S. Senate Steve Sauerberg, M.D., called on Senator Dick Durbin to denounce the sexist remarks being blasted across the Internet about Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin. Blogs such as Daily Kos have stooped to a new low by publishing these ridiculous commentaries regarding Sarah Palins newborn son and her teenage daughter, Sauerberg said. As someone well-connected with the Daily Kos staff, Sen. Durbin should be first in line to condemn this behavior.
Durbin blogs frequently for the Daily Kos (http://dick-durbin.dailykos.com/), and most recently used the site to solicit support for Congressional candidate Bill Foster in February and March of 2008. He also asked Kos readers to Help me set the Senates Agenda in a blog post on 1/9/07. This is not the first time controversy has followed Sen. Durbin in relation to the Daily Kos. In August of 2007, Durbin was broadcast in as a keynote speaker at the YearlyKos national convention in Chicago. Durbins video appearance broke Senate ethics rules by producing the video in the Senate recording studios and improperly using the U.S. Senate seal on the campaign video.
The mediabloggers and otherwiseshould be respectful of Palins children and responsible enough to recognize false rumors for what they are. It is reprehensible that these Web sites are propagating this nonsense, Sauerberg said. # # # Sauerberg for U.S. Senate P.O. Box 667 Lombard, IL 60148. Thanks for posting this. I wonder if Durbin will do anything about it.
See if Durbin says anything. Even Obama had said that candidates families are off limits. Do Obama’s supporters listen to him????
I think Obama’s supporters listen to him — he says one thing in public to look good (Palin’s family is off limits) and the opposite in private to his supporters (take Palin down any way you can).
He has been stonewalling even debating. Sauerberg has improved in Illinois and has been creative in his campaigning but his big problem is just having money to compete and get name recognition. I have been heartened, the Illinois GOP seems to have picked up energy. There are opportunities, this is one race that has been written off as has been the one in West Virginia. Virginia seems to be coming together but the local GOP organizations still seem to have some fractures. Jim Gilmore should be riding high if only he had more money to knock liberal Warner down. I hope he pumps more of his own money into the race. He can win. Steve Pearce, Shaffer, and many other good conservatives could win in this environment. The GOP needs to focus on the energy message and victory message in Iraq. Hit the Democrats as a national party of failed liberalism. There is opportunity to nationalize this election and Palin gives McCain the opportunity while all eyes are on her to compare and contrast not just themselves but Republicans running for office nation wide.
Durbin is quick to call our troops Nazis, slow to defend babies.
Good points. Surely the Republicans do need to hit the Democrats as a failed liberal (leftist) party all over this country, and the present momentum favors their doing so.
talk is cheap. Durbin has to completely disassociate himself from this trash site.
The actions of American troops are akin to something that “must have happened by Nazis, Soviets in their Gulags, or some mad regime, Pol Pot or others, that had no concern for human beings.”
- Senator Dick Durbin
If I posted what I wanted to say to this...
I’d be banned.
Use your imagination...
I know the feeling. What I don’t understand is why the GOP leadership doesn’t work harder to remove such scum from the Senate.
I don’t understand it, either.
Maybe McCain/Palin will change all that.
I just can’t stand to see our Troops disrespected in this way.
It makes me so angry, I could spit nails.
There is not ONE noteworthy conservative in a high position of power on Sauerberg's campaign, his whole staff is "moderate" GOP insiders who want to govern as Durbin-lite.

Andy Martin calls his opponent, "Gun control Sauerberg"
[Primary challenger Andy] Martin noted that that after he challenged Sauerberg on Sauerberg's plan for more gun control, Sauerberg did not deny the accusation. "It was surreal", says Martin. 'I got up in front of a bunch of gun owners and told them Sauerberg wanted a little' more gun control and Sauerberg did not deny the accusation".

Sauerberg: "I Have Qualms..." about overturning Roe v. Wade.
This past week, on the anniversary of the Roe decision the Republican Candidates for the U.S. Senate all attended a forum sponsored by the Illinois Family Institute, which has made audio from the event available. Be sure to listen to Steve Sauerberg talk about his "qualms" about overturning Roe, and Andy Martin's defense of the status quo, and hear Mike Psak be the only candidate to come out in favor of not only overturning Roe, but also cutting off federal funding for any organization that provides abortion services.
I was right the first time. There is only one truly pro-life candidate for the U.S. Senate in Illinois: Mike Psak.

ACTIVIST JUDGES
PRIMARY CAMPIAGN INTERVIEW -
Jeff Berkowitz: As a senator, you are going to have a choice in confirmation of judges. Would you have a litmus test? Would it matter to you whether the judge [wannabe] wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade or the judge [wannabe] supported Roe v. Wade?
Dr. Steve Sauerberg: I dont think it is appropriate to have a litmus test
Jeff Berkowitz: Including that. So, you could see yourself
Dr. Steve Sauerberg: Including that. Thats just not appropriate. Thats not the way judges should be chosen.
Jeff Berkowitz: So, you could see yourself confirming for the Supreme Court a judge who is AVOWEDLY pro-Choice?
Dr. Steve Sauerberg: It could happen.

"PERSONALLY" OPPOSES GAY MARRIAGE, BUT...
"While he defines marriage as between a man and woman, he DOESNT think a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage is necessary.

Conservatives steam over Sauerberg staffer IL GOP candidate for U.S. Senate Steve Sauerberg stunned social conservatives last week when he announced the addition of a HOMOSEXUAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST AS HIS CAMPAIGNS NEW PRESS SECRETARY. Christopher Barron, 36, was the point man for the Log Cabin Republicans in their 2004 campaign against President George W. Bush's effort to add a federal marriage protection amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
After discussion about the revelation broke out last week on Illinois Review (see "Sauerberg: Personnel is Policy"), state pro-family leaders -- including talk show host Sandy Rios and national activist Peter LaBarbera -- voiced outrage Monday on the air over Sauerberg's apparent political snub.
"It is inconceivable that Steve Sauerberg would so needlessly alienate the pro-family conservative base in Illinois by hiring a veteran homosexual activist for his campaign," said Peter LaBarbera, founder of Republicans For Family Values (www.rffv.org).
Within weeks of President Bush's amendment announcement in 2004, Barron and the Log Cabin Republicans launched its first ever $1 million ad campaign criticizing the president's effort and ultimately withheld endorsing Bush in his 2004 presidential re-election bid.
The LCR ad was designed to embarrass Bush by purposely pitting the President's position in support of the marriage amendment directly against his VP Dick Cheney's 2000 debate comments.
LCR protest ads ran in home states of Republicans who sponsored the effort in Congress. As the group's political director, Barron was quoted widely in the national media during the heat of the federal marriage debate.
In a May 11, 2004 Rocky Mountain News story, Sauerberg's now-press secretary Barron told reporter Peggy Lowe about the LCRs' determination to make two Colorado lawmakers "regret" their federal efforts to protect traditional marriage

Fully fund federal programs geared toward protecting our environment.
Increase fuel economy standards on cars and trucks.
Enhance our nation's rail capacity. Trains are the most efficient means of transporting large amounts of manufactured goods, and the railroad industry has a proven safety record. In fact, trains are three times more fuel efficient than over-the-road trucks.
