How does a guy author two memoirs and . . . well, nothing else?
self | vanity

Posted on 09/08/2008 8:40:52 PM PDT by StAntKnee

Where's the paper trail on this guy Obama's writing?

I've published a dozen novels and half a dozen nonfiction books and edited newspapers and magazines (I'm not a real journalist, honest. I used to be that way, but I'm just a fella now). Done some ghosting and teaching of writing, too. Nobody, but nobody publishes a polished memoir, let alone two (and forget that it's by the age 47 at that), until there's been a few signs of brilliance earlier.

Where's the early signs of writing genius? The college literary magazine? Freelance pieces? Poetry? Fiction? Works that didn't sell so good after publication? Works that never sold to a publisher?

Hey, it's no sin to have ghostwritten material, but . . . where's the antecedent written pieces of genius?

When you look at this guy's resume as we saw today in an earlier post, you see more missing between the lines than actual lines.

Educate me. How was this done under the noses of a critics and other writers? This man is a shadow.

I'm open to links to his other published writing that could not have been done from within the campaign. I've seen the stories of the Said ghosting, but nowhere have I seen comparisons between O's alleged writing in the memoirs and his earlier writing.

Is it just me, or is it really egotistic to publish memoirs? These should be written only by those old enough and accomplished enough to have something to say.

I guess I should crack open a copy of them in a Barnes and Noble something and see what the style and content are like.

You might drop the guys at National Review a note on like this. They are writers and may have looked into it. I think you bring up a good point.

it was his plan to be president.

and he left no legislation nor speeches nor journal articles that would conflict with his present positions.

Don’t you understand that it is so noteworthy that a black man can achieve such status that he can have two memoirs? This is history!

Bambi wrote those two “novels” to create a resume. Seems to be working just fine for the MSM and DNC.

You could call him a shadow.
I think of him more as a fake Christmas tree.
No reality, empty branchs put in place by someone else.
Some people hang pretty ornaments on the tree.
Some hang coal, onions, potatos.
He is only the aggregate of what’s hung on him.
And he will fall over when there’s too much
$hit on him.

By the time Napoleon made himself emperor, he had won the Battles of Lodi, of Arcole, of Rivoli, of the Pyramids and of Marengo. And had promugulated the Napoleonic Code. He had yet to write a single autobiography.

I don’t know. If you think you have something to say. He had a odd story and maybe people suggested he write it up. How he got it published beats me though, and didn’t he get an advance? That seems uncommon to me. But I may be wrong.

I’m thinking I may have to break down, too, and read some. Don’t buy one, for heaven’s sake. Do the library thing.

But I’m waiting, and earnestly waiting, to see some examples of early writing so I can compare.

As to your question, I can see a pragmatic purpose in a young man’s memoir. To get out the allegations of drugs and anger so you can’t get hit in the campaign. And to sell yourself to the public who’s looking for a man like you to love.

I did see all the buzz about the Middle East mentors and such that got him before the publishing industry. And the literary ghostwriter.

I’m not interested in that.

I want to see some early writing, doggone it.

Gee, I’m sure all his scholarly research while “first black editor” at Harvard Law School is readily available . . .

Right?

This doesn’t answer your question but I was reading an article earlier tonight on the University of Chicago Law School history with Obama and it indicates that he was offered a fellowship with the University after Obama said he was writing a book about voting rights. However, after he arrived at the university, he apparently told them the voting rights book had morphed into “Dreams from My Father”. The university apparently didn’t care and continued to give him a stipend to complete the book.

And, yes, to create a resume. Agreed.

But isn’t it odd that it is his only seemingly authentic written resume item?

I never understood his “memoirs” either. He’s only 47 years old. Didn’t he write one of the books in his early 30s?

Geeze. That’s an easy one. Add enough angst and style to a memoir and the publishers miss how vacuous it is — mainly because so many in the New York publishing industry lead such vacuous lives themselves.

Bill it as coming from some person from a group liberal whites (which describes many NYC publishers) feel guilty about.

Simple as that.

If it doesn’t sell worth squat, no sweat — the cookbook line will come up with some new fad diet to gull the public with. That will make enough profit to cover the loss with the memoir.

"Educate me. How was this done under the noses of a critics and other writers? This man is a shadow."

It's all part of the deception. The guy is a fraud. A fabrication. He's nothing. He's done nothing worthy of recognition. He's achieved no milestones achedemically, politically, or even community organizationally.

he's nothing but a polished turd.
