Americans face the most important election choice since Ronald Reagan
Kelly McParland National Post ^ | September 06, 2008 | Conrad Black

The policy and ideological differences between the Unites States’ Democrats and Republicans this year are greater than in all the elections since the Second World War, except for Barry Goldwater’s quixotic challenge to Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society in 1964; George McGovern’s kamikaze mission against Richard Nixon in 1972; and Ronald Reagan’s release of Jimmy Carter to spend more time with his family in 1980.

The differences over taxes, the economy and medical care are profound -- and very complicated. Obama is proposing one of the greatest tax increases in world history, entirely on the wealthiest 40% of the U.S. population -- who already contribute more than 100% (yes, you read that correctly) of the U.S. government’s personal income tax revenue. He is disguising it behind a welter of largely fictitious refundable tax credits. The increased tax on people of substantial income will be paid out to people who pay small amounts of tax or none at all. No part of this familiar process is a “tax-cut,” which is how it has been presented.

Senator Obama is and will be the political leader of African-Americans, whether he is the next president or not. This election ... decide whether the U.S. armed forces become an Ozymandian white elephant or continue to be the most powerful geopolitical factor in the world.

I honestly hope that Americans will wake up from this nightmare and will not accept "the glorious leader" just because of a shared skin color. Paging MLK...

As for "Ozymandian" - if that ever happens, God help us all on this planet.

A lot of people think that there is a lot of surplus money laying around doing nothing in the hands of the corporations and the rich.(Like they keep their spare cash stuffed in their mattresses.)

They think this phantom surplus is enough to feed the hungry, house the homeless, clothe the naked and heal the sick.

Mr. Obama will round up this idle cash and end poverty with it.

Even if there were this so called surplus, at some point it would become depleted. Then what?

ironically, it’s the east/west coast Harvard educated elitists that poohpooh Sarah Palin that will be soaked the most under Obama.
