It has been called an Alice in Wonderland investigation into the makeup of the universe or dangerous tampering with nature that could spell doomsday.
Whatever the case, the most powerful atom-smasher ever built comes online Wednesday, eagerly anticipated by scientists worldwide who have awaited this moment for two decades.

Looks to me like a preproduction version of the flux capacitor.

Gosh I hate to be such a skeptic, but my nearly 70 years, 18 of them with Clinton in world, has done that to me.
LOL!...I know what you mean; and Obamalamadingdong is the icing on the cake. Well, IMHO, the whole thing is going to result in the detection of smaller particles, necessitating mathematical explanations that will be used to justify the construction of even larger machines...PerCon's first law of particle physics...
Subatomic detectives are on the trail of the theoretical Higgs Boson, known as the "God Particle" in some circles. If you are interested, I refer you to
this. If not, just think of it as a full employment program for Fermilab, CERN, etc...

Heh. As explained to me by some good UK friends.....CERN is ready to reveal the "God Particle" and unify the Theory of Everything.
Far out. Frankly, I thing this big atom smasher is quite cool, but for some reason, I'm not to worried about a black hole appearing........;) I think the "God Particle" might still be a little beyond our reach...;)

Black holes can be such a drag. If memory serves this old dude correctly I have to agree.

Don't worry about the children being corrupted. None of them read well enough now to handle the Bible, or Darwin. And as far as 6,000 years goes, they haven't got the number concepts to handle that, either.
Condom use, Driver's Ed, and Global Warming are the foundation of the Public School curriculum,in that order. Gotta go, late for my Hygienic Piercing 101 at the Community College night school for seniors.
I will be offering a discount to all freepers.

We would have been well past this point in scientific discovery had Bubba Clinton not cancelled the SuperConducting Super Collider in Texas after he got elected.Yes, the cancellation of that project was disasterous. Note well that this was done when there was a democratic Congress and democratic president.
